This is part TPAS and part Resorts oriented, but many of us who planned NYE trips were discussing the "which MK fireworks show and when" question quite a bit around here... so just wanted to get this down in one place while the memory is fresh so I can remember this! :-)

For 2017, both the early (6:30 PM) and late (11:50 PM) shows on both 12/30 and 12/31 were "Fantasy in the Sky" followed by the "New Years Countdown" segment which has a countdown, Auld Lang Syne, and a bunch of 180 degree/perimeter fireworks.

Note, 2017 was a departure from the last few years where the early show was "Holiday Wishes" (the MVMCP fireworks show) with the New Years Countdown segment.

Of note, only the late (11:50 PM) show utilized the secondary full launch site on the island in the middle of the Seven Seas Lagoon. If you've never seen it, the fireworks shot from the island effectively "mirror" those launched from the traditional "behind the castle" location. This is the so-called "360 degree" show. This is also used for the 7/3 & 7/4 special MK fireworks shows.

While not all that useful for those in the MK, the "island" launch site makes for much better viewing options for the "outside the MK" folks at the monorail resorts.

Personally, I was in MK for the 12/30 6:30 PM show (at the Plaza Garden Dessert Party, which was a great choice given the crowds, in my humble opinion). I watched the other three shows from Poly.

My quick take... while I knew what to expect from YouTube, my only slightly negative thought is that the show is relatively short at just around 10 minutes.

Also, granted I purposely made the choice to watch all four shows, part of me wishes the early show was something different like prior years....I got a little bored with Fantasy in the Sky after awhile...don't :duck:!!

Here are some bad phone fireworks pics!

The 12/30, 11:50 PM show with the "island" launch site in use. Again, the island launch site was not used for the early show on either day.

Same night, during the NY/finale segment. Pretty awesome (and loud) at this point for sure.

From the Poly beach, 12/31, 6:30 PM show. This is towards the end. For those curious, this particular section of the beach was reserved for Poly resort and ADR guests only this night, with actual enforcement.

Happy to answer any questions! Otherwise, we can put this post in hibernation for 11 months until we all start trying to figure this out again!

Happy New Year everyone!

I was in the park on the 12/31 for both shows and the midnight show seemed to be much more substantial. Perhaps it was my viewing location, but I didn’t see the 360° fireworks on the 6:30 show, but I did see what appeared to be the mirrored fireworks.

So on NYE if we have Ohana ADR's we should be able to watch from the beach? Staying at BAY and hoping to watch from there after Ohana dinner. Thanks!

I will caveat that exact resort operating procedures can change from year to year. But on 12/31 this year, the main beach area (an area from the boat dock to roughly the first bungalow) was reserved for Poly and ADR guests only, with quite active enforcement.

So yes, assuming a similar setup this year, you can get in the main beach area with your Ohana ADR.

It’s the beach area behind the barricades that is the reserved area.

Does anyone know if the poly beach was also roped off on the 30/12?

Also was there a specific club level section with seating on the 30th?

Thanks
