Here is another company i have found that rents wheelchairs. They rent both standard weight, and leight weight, as well as other medical equipment needed when travelling. Emailed them, and here is some more info:

The standard manual wheelchairs (similar to the ones they use in the hospital) come in a 16” seat and an 18” seat and they weigh approximately 36 pounds. The lightweight wheelchairs also come in a 16” seat and an 18” seat and weigh approximately 30 pounds. We also offer extra wide wheelchairs that come in a 20” seat and a 22” seat; they weigh approximately 40-42 pounds. If the person does not need to propel themselves and will have someone to push them then there is also the option of a transport chair. Transport chairs don’t have the large side wheels and only weigh 26 pounds. Please feel free to contact us if you should have any more questions.

the seats on the lightweights and transports are canvas. The seats on the standards are vinyl.

This means no need to bring a towel! Also they come in sizes. for us short people, it is nice not to have to use a 18 or 20" chair! they also deliver (possibly for a charge, i will ask) anyone ever use them?

here is their website
http://www.questmedicaloutfitters.com/rentals.asp

here are the delivery charges:
Delivery is as follows:

0-30 miles (from our location): $50

31-50 miles (from our location: $60

51-60 miles (from our location): $75

which isnt too bad, really, given that the chair may be much more suited to you. They also rent things like trapeze and such. the address is as follows:
Quest Medical Outfitters
632 Maguire Boulevard
Orlando, Florida 32803

Tel: 407.898.2998
Fax: 407.898.1620

Store Hours

8:00am - 5:00pm : Monday - Friday

Their rates look reasonable, but I noticed they are North of Orlando Executive Airport and it looks like a $60 delivery fee will be tacked onto everything.

No one has ever written about using this company that I remember.
The delivery fee is pretty high (although the prices are pretty good).
Also they come in sizes. for us short people, it is nice not to have to use a 18 or 20" chair!
I just wanted to point out that the size measurements are width of the seat. So they may not help short people all that much. (Although, a too-wide wheelchair is much harder to drive).

well i was going to reply "little people" but i am not a little person, medically speaking. so i was going for a way of saying i am 5', 100 lbs. pushing a big chair is almost impossible for me, but i do not want an ecv. they are too heavy and i do not use disney transportation all the time.

i would spend $60-$75 anyway from caremedical or the others for a week-long trip, so i would rather spend $100-$110 and have a chair that fits me! it is 10lbs lighter and the seat is not vinyl (so no need to buy a seat cover, which would have added to the cost anyway) or trying to tape a towel to the seat...

its just another option, and i like the options available.

If you do use them, could you please let us know about the quality of their service and the equipment. This way we could possibly include them in the FAQ or we could possibly warn people about them.
