New Waitlist Rules

I am sure this question has been asked many times but I would like to know what the new waitlist rules are? We have just purchased with DVC and don't have my packet yet from Disney but understand I can call MS within 1 week to make my first ressie. We will probably have to use waitlist because we can only go in August this year if we don't want to stay at our home resort. Can't wait to make our first reservation. I am going to try for Aulani for next year. Wish me luck with that one!

Find out the policies and procedures for requesting alternate vacation choices.

If you are unable to secure the reservations you want, rest assured that you do have options. The key is to have alternate choices selected when you contact Member Services. Being flexible with alternate dates, resorts and/or accommodations can assist you in your effort to secure a reservation. However, if you need a specific reservation that is unavailable, you can ask to be placed on a waiting list.

What you need to know about the wait list for Disney Vacation Club Resorts:

During the Home Resort Priority, you can only wait list at your Home Resort.
You can have up to two active wait list requests per Membership per Use Year.
Wait list requests for consecutive nights cannot be split into separate night-by-night requests.
Your request will remain on the wait list for up to 31 days before your requested check-in date. If you'd like to keep your name on the wait list beyond that time, contact Member Services at least 32 days prior to your requested check-in date.
There is no wait list available within seven days of your requested check-in date.
If your wait list request becomes available, Member Services will automatically confirm the reservation and mail a confirmation to you.
There is no need to contact Member Services once your request has been placed on the wait list.
All other wait list requests or previously confirmed reservations for comparable dates will be cancelled when a wait list request is confirmed. Additionally, you will not be contacted prior to a wait list request being confirmed and a confirmation letter being mailed to you.
As a courtesy to other Members, please contact Member Services if you no longer wish to be on the wait list.
Tip: For a better chance of securing your vacation plans when you call Member Services, have second and third choices in mind. Since being on the wait list does not guarantee you a vacation spot, consider whether you can alter your arrival or departure dates or use different accommodations, among other things.

Call your Guide and have him/her book your first reservation for you. They can often pull rooms from non DVC inventory.

I second this. I closed in Jan and my guide was able to assist me in getting an MK view studio at BLT for the first weekend in June. Can't wait for SWW!

If I am reading your other posts correctly you just purchased SSR resale- in which case you can't call your guide for help with a reservation- they only help when you buy direct. I suspect you can still get a reservation at your home resort and may have a couple of other choices once MS has your points in your account.

If you did buy direct as soon as your deposit is paid and you have signed paperwork your points are ready for use.

He is probably still reeling from the Mar 20th deadline! I will try to call MS on Friday to see if they have my name on file yet. That will be about 1 week since we sent the check. I will have various options for my call so all goes smooth!

Did your contract actually close on Friday? Or, did you just send the documents and payment back Friday?

You won't be in the Disney system until a week or two after your contract actually closes.

All members have a Guide, you just don't know who was assigned to you yet. Since you bought resale you are on your own to book a room.

Home resort priority is your ability to currently book at 11 months. It doesn't have anything to do with wait lists.

The waitlist is a first to ask, first to get thing.

But those who need to waitlist at their home resort would naturally be ahead of the others who do not own there - those folks cannot even try to book until the 7 month window opens, so they would be lower on the waitlist than those who waitlisted during the home resort period.

Poorly stated, but hope it makes sense anyway.

No. The "home resort priority" is from 11 months to 7 months before the date of stay. Only people who have points at a particular resort can book or waitlist during that time. For example, if you want a reservation at BWV, during the 11 to 7 month window, you can only use BWV points to make a reservation or be placed on the waitlist. At 7 months, any resort points can be used for a reservation or a waitlist.

Wait lists are first come, first serve. If you go on a wait list during the home resort booking period, then yes, you will be ahead of non-resort owners because they can not go on a wait list until 7 months prior to the trip.

However, if you call at 5 months to book and go on a wait list then, you will fall in line with everyone and there could be people ahead of you who don't own at your resort.

You have it right. It is more strict than it used to be. It stopped the waitlisting day by day that members used to do to get each night they needed, one at a time. It made it more difficult to get a stay when members waitlisted day by day.

SSR is beautiful, but I bet others are available.

I changed a couple nights 08-25 - 08-28 about 2 weeks ago, and they have AK Sav or stand, WL, OKW, SSR, and 2/3 BW BW view.

I bet there are a few open. .. one more time. SSR IS beautiful, view are unique, location is in the middle of everything, next to DTD, and almost certianly available.

It may not be BC, but it is a close second.

Also unless it is a night or 2, I suspect a wait list will be tough. Being you are so close to when you are going, there are prolly a few dozen people ahead at the super popular resorts.
