New upcharge late afternoon, early evening safari ride, $169 plus tax, plus park admission

We tried to book it for mid Sept this morning. CM said it is only scheduled to run through first week in September. Times he said were on the hour not on the 30. He said to try back in a few weeks for any updates. It is worth it to us because neither of us like heights so the original Trek isn't of interest. We had been waiting for something like this since we did the Breakfast Safari from AKL during the last month it was offered. The small number of people (max 12) on each vehicle made for an awesome experience.

I just booked for late July and the CM also gave me times on the hour at first. I'd wanted 4:30 when I originally called, but told her I'd go with 5:00pm. However, once she went to select the time for my reservation, she said, "Oh, sorry, the times are actually on the half hour." So I was able to select 4:30pm.

How long is the tour? I would assume because tours are coming by the hour that time eating is also limited?

OP thanks for posting!

If it's available in Sept. I'd probably do it, I did the one that is only for AKL guests, which was twice as much and loved it. Of course, that offered appetizers and a 4 course meal with wine pairings at Jinko.

we had an amazing time on the breakfast safari from AKV, i was so disappointed when they discontinued it.

I agree that this factors in for many. For us, it makes no difference at all. :) It's ALL subjective, but I've never seen an event including unlimited alcohol that I didn't think was worth it without the alcohol. Disney must just LOVE me... ... :rotfl:

lol I thought MGMs SWW event well worth the cost. The drinks/desserts were great but it was so nice not to have to hold down a piece of turf for the parade & then get to walk behind it up to the stage.

That's a pricey experience. The same type of experience is offered at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park except on that you get to feed giraffes and rhinos and take photos with them and it's $110. To pay more than that and not get any animal interaction is a waste in my opinion.

It's alot cheaper to drive to BG tampa and do their tour that includes feeding the giraffees, etc. recommend it highly.

darn it, was hoping for early Oct. Looking forward to reading reviews:)

Thank you, beesly! That helps with planning! Seriously considering shifting things around for this.

I did the Wild Africa Trek last month, the food stop was about 45 minutes. The next group was waiting to pull in when we were leaving. There wasn't any alcohol on the Trek but it was 3 hours and cost $149 in the afternoon before discounts.

We paid $249pp for WAT before discounts...?

Website lists $189-$249 without tax and before discount for WAT... https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/animal-kingdom/wild-africa-trek/

There is a discount offered for afternoon treks this summer. Ours was $149, then you could apply a DVC or cast member discount.

I've been on hold for 31 minutes hoping to book this for September. This is right up our alley!

Boo! I have less than 10 minutes left on hold. I might as well stick it out. Maybe if they see interest it will be extended.

I was on hold well over an hour and hung up. No idea what way tying up the phone lines at 6:00 in the evening! Great hold music though.

Hoping to find out later today if this is being offered beyond Sept 5. Seems there are a lot of unknowns post that date! Frustrating.

This would be me, if I were in the conference room in Burbank (ow wherever) when the discussion was being tossed around about this event, and when it should run:

WDW Exec: "We will roll this out in June and shut it down after Labor Day."

Me: But...but...but...After Labor Day, the demographic starts to change over from "mostly families" to "lots of honeymooners, dating couples, DINKS, retired couples, solo travelers, and people who intentionally plan their vacations for times when there are fewer kids around." Doesn't it stand to reason that this latter demographic is far more likely to spend $169 per person for a special experience? Which do you think is more likely: A family of 5 spending $845 for this, or a young couple who just got engaged, or are about to get engaged, or who are on a "Babymoon", or just retired who will spend $338 for the two of them? After all, this is why we hold Food and Wine from mid-September through mid-November. The change in demographic makes that "adult" experience a perfect time for Food and Wine, and it would make a perfect time for a special safari where alcohol is included. I really think that you are missing out on a great opportunity here by not marketing this event to coincide with Food and Wine. This could prove to be a "couples" and "solos" type of event far more than it might be a "pay for the whole family" event.

So what happens next? Do I get a bonus, or do I get fired? Sometimes I wonder if some if WDW's decision makers are intentionally dense, or just plain stupid. How could they not understand that $169 events with alcohol are ones that couples and solos are going to be more interested in far more so than families with a minivan full of kids? And how can they not appreciate that that demographic increases after Labor Day?

I wish it was going to be running for longer. We loved the WAT and I'd sign up for this but we're not going until December. I can only hope it's successful enough that they decide to extend it.

Sounds wonderful! I also wonder if it will be extended. Unfortunately, if it is, will also have to decide between this and MVMCP.:scratchin
