New TSA approved luggage locks.

thanks for the info. The only question I have is WILL they have the passkey and WILL they actually use it.

Unknown if TSA will have a pass key to this or not. I heard one person used these locks when they first came out and TSA still cut the lock off. Maybe someone should inform TSA on this (LOL).

Or, tell Brookstone to stop advertising them without the knowledge that ALL TSA personnell have them and use them.
It is, IMHO, a very clever advertising ploy.

My theory is that if the TSA knows how to open them so will your local baggage handlers and assorted others so what good are they?

GREAT point. I don't lock my luggage, my adage: Take it, don't break it. It's insured and I don't put anything valuable in there anyway.

By the way, I saw these on TV the other day and I don't think they use a pass key. I think there is some "trick" the TSA is suppose to use to open them. Of course if the "Trick" does not work the TSA would cut them off. (Locks like this are not the most reliable hardware in the world.)

I'm with Gail, if its that valuable DON'T pack it. No one has ever stolen my dirty underwear.

I hope the OP does not think we are putting down her information, we do appreciate the sharing. It was really nice of you to share.

From the Brookstone site:
The luggage locks security won’t cut off. Our Easy Check™ locks are certified by Travel Sentry™ and feature a ‘Passkey System’ used by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Airport security personnel can now inspect and re-lock your bags quickly and easily. Resettable four-dial combination lock provides additional security by allowing you to periodically change the combination. Sturdy, die-cast alloy construction provides excellent security and durability. Oversized dials and numbers are easy to see and operate.

I would be surprised:
1. If they had the keys.
2. If they would even use them.
3. Will this increase the time needed to inspect?
4. Will they remember the "trick" and who else will learn it?

We're just back from Orlando and was surprised but not upset at TSA handling of our luggage. We had our locks just hanging on a ring on the side with nothing locked. They cut them off. We had peices of the lock in the side pocket that was left open, nothing inside. I don't think they check if its' locked, if they see a lock they cut it off, regardless. I guess they think it's a waste of time to look very closely at them. Well, I rather they cut off everybodies lock and check the luggage for our safety. I don't see them taking the time to use a master key. JMHO.
