New Transport Option Seattle to Vancouver?

I just read an article in the Vancouver paper about a local seaplane company that's working on having a route from Seattle harbour to Vancouver harbour up and running by next summer. That would let you fly between the downtown cores without the airport hassle. I'm sure that anyone who's cruised from Vancouver has seen the float planes landing right near the cruise ship terminal. It probably wouldn't be cheap, but it would be a quick and spectacular way to combine the two cities in one trip. Just thought I'd throw that out there as something to look at for anyone planning for next summer.

Thoughts...
  • I wonder what the rate would be? Would it be 4 to 5 times the cost of a bus/train?
  • how much luggage am I allowed on those tiny planes? What would be the surcharge be for extra cruise luggage.
  • I agree, it's great to another option.

I'm guessing it wouldn't be cheap. But, the scenery would be amazing and it would probably be less than a flightseeing excursion in either port.
Luggage might be an issue. My husband flies with them to Victoria a few times a year when he does contract work but he's only going a few days and doesn't take much with him. The planes are quite small so luggage may be limited.

That sounds interesting as an excursion, but not practical otherwise. It would likely be so expensive that just flying into Vancouver would be cheaper.

If it's similar to the cost of a seaplane trip to Victoria, which is a roughly similar distance, it'll be about $150 each way per person. It's cheaper to fly Alaska Airlines, but you have to go from SEA to YVR, which takes longer because of security and you end up on the outskirts of Vancouver instead of right downtown.

I'm sure it would cost much more than flying to Vancouver, especially since you'd have to get from Seattle Airport to the harbour on your own. It would only be an option for people wanting to see both cities on one trip.

I rented a car in Seattle for 45.00 dollars. It was a beautiful and very easy 160.00 mile drive from the airport to the Hyatt in Vancouver. I dropped the car off the next morning and walked the two blocks backs back to the Hyatt. Gas cost me 20CAD. I cant imagine a sea plane being cheap or much easier then renting a car.

We got flight tickets to Vancouver from Texas via WestJet for very reasonable prices, not much more than flying to Florida. No need to stop in Seattle in our case. I wonder how many people have not checked WestJet out before assuming they need to fly into Seattle to save money.
