"Trail's End at Fort Wilderness to offer a lunch menu service instead of buffet
Aug 27, 2010

Beginning this Sunday (August 27 2010), Trail's End at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort will offer an a la carte menu service for lunch instead of a buffet service. We understand that this is a trial, and menu items include chili, fried chicken and waffles, sautéed catfish, grilled pork chop, spicy grilled shrimp and andouille sausage, Wilderness s’mores and a warm sticky bun sundae. No word yet on how long the trial period will last.

Breakfast and dinner are set to remain as a buffet."

I LOVE me some fried chicken and waffles! I've often commented to my wife how the fried chicken at TE would be awesome paired with waffles. I may need to make a trip to the Fort just for lunch!

What does this mean for the Giddy'up and Go take out meal that TCD raves about? I was really hoping to try that this trip (next week). Well, the lunch menu sounds like it could be interesting -- I think we'll try it and report back here.

Good to hear. But they still need a burger and fries.

Sounds interesting.

I was wondering if I had read the OP correctly since I have never heard of it before. I'm picturing KFC with a side of eggos?

Good question...

Good to hear. But they still need a burger and fries.

I agree!

It means nothing. The Giddy'up & Go is only available for dinner - after 4:30pm.

I can understand why they might be trying this. I'd read some rumors that they might be shutting TE down completely at lunch time, and I'm sure lunch time is their least busy time, even during free dining (since so few people who stay at the Fort get the dining plan). This works out as a decent compromise. There will still be meals available for lunch, but they won't waste food by preparing a buffet that only a few people might eat. I would rather have a decent selection of food on a menu than have only a few choices at a buffet.

It's one of my favorite meals. Picture a nice waffle, fluffy in the middle and crispy outside, with a big dallop of whipped butter on it. Then they place a couple pieces of fried chicken on top, and you can drizzle syrup or honey all over it. Sounds weird, but the mixture of sweet syrup with crispy and greasy chicken is SO good. And the waffle just soaks it all up.

Oh man, I'm hungry.

I totally get it! KFM used to cook us some grilled cheese sammies w/bacon and I'd pour syrup all over the top. Mmmmmmmm........ that syrup is def good with greasy fried food. Now I'm gonna have to try it with chicken instead of bacon.

Sunday is August 29 2010.

Good info. I was just wondering this very thing. Nice reporting.

This sounds serious. I think that we need an intervention for our good friend Dave. FrIENDS don't let FrIENDS eat things like that.

:faint:

Oh no! Not you too! ;)

We really like Trails End and even drive over when we aren't staying overnight. Half the family loved breakfast and the other half lunch so we would get there at 11:15 so we could get a little of both. How disappointing that they are going alacarte for lunch but I guess it does make sense since most people are in the parks that time of day.

Hey - anybody want to share a campsite? Nonsmokers only, please.

That sounds yummy! :goodvibes

Has anybody seen, or better yet, tried this rumored new lunch menu?

According the rumor, it was supposed to debut on Sunday, August 27th. Maybe they meant August 29th (?).

In any event, August is over.

So, are they serving new lunch items at Trail's End?
