Congrats on your new camera, I bought one a few weeks ago and love it, upgraded from the 20d. Though the menu is way different from the 20d I've now gotten use to it but still haven't tried live view yet.
We-Luv-Disney when did you get yours? Have you tried live view yet?
Here's a shot I took the other day I think it's a Broad-Wing Hawk.
Enjoy your new camera.

I got mine about 3 weeks ago from pictureline.com. I have tried out live view with very good results. I found that the autofocus with live view is accurate about 80% of the time. It also much easier to compose while using a tripod, thanks to live view. Here's a night shot I took last week, with live view, tripod, shuttle cable , 17-40 lens.

BTW did I mention I  my 40D :rotfl:

wow, photos look great! i'll have to show hub so he starts nudging closer to the "buying mood":lmao:

Canon typically has a fall rebate of some kind (around oct 15th). Hope you don't end up kicking yourself if you could have saved over $100 by waiting a mere 18 days or so. But nothing is official so its still a gamble at this point.

I went ahead and ordered a new lens last weekend because if I would have waited until the rebate it would not have been here in time for the end of my kid's soccer season.

Eek! Don't tell me that. I am planning to order it in a week possibly since my xt is acting up and I don't want to take the chance of being without.

Yea the thought crossed my mind, but I am guessing that they won't have a rebate on their newest camera, maybe the 30D to blow out inventory or something...

My hardest decision was really 30D vs 40D. I decided to get the newest one, that way, when the 50 comes out I won't be wanting to do this again. I am ok being one rev behind, but 2 revs is a lot of new technology. I figure I have a good 3-5 years at this point before there are enough improvements to put me over the edge again.

Now the learning curve begins again...

This has been the choice I have been facing. I have been waiting for the 30d to drop to around $1000 at Beach Camera which it now has...but now the 40d is out and it looks too good to pass up. I did not plan to spend this much right now but I really want to get the "newest" one so I will not be ready to upgrade again for a while. I already bought the Rebel when it came out but then the XT came out and luckily I was in my 90 days so I was able to exchange it for the Rebel XT when it came out. Then about 6 months ago I bought the XTi and did not like it so I returned it and kept using the xt til I could upgrade to the 30d... AND NOW look at me planning to buy the 40d. Hopefully I can book a lot of fall sessions to help pay it off fast. :rolleyes1

AMAZING photo! WOW!! I am so excited to get the chance to try it out. Love good nighttime shots.

sort of ot but what else is new with me...

historically how long does it take for a new model to start coming down in price? does it depend on the sales?( i am guessing lots buying = high price, scanty sales=lower price) i was thinking maybe after the christmas buying blitz?

unless husband wants to shock me sooner and just get it as a "surprise",,,,, ;) not counting on that although he did ask if my lenses would be ok with it so at least he's weighing the options:lmao: it was easier to wait when i wasn't tempted by the actual photos:rotfl: but keep em coming anyway:goodvibes

OK that is one cute puppy.

Nice photo too. :)

Funny, I'm planning on getting one of those 28-135 IS lenses, and the majority of places I've been looking seem to carry it both as a NIB item and as a pull from 40D kits.

Tri-State has a great price on the pulled lens, so I know they are selling the 40D as body-only, and even my local camera shop, Service Photo in Baltimore, has been pulling the kits apart and selling the bodies and lenses separately (though their price is way higher so I won't be getting the lens from them).
