New to VMK - Having difficulty

I signed up for VMK yesterday and was looking forward to getting started. It took Forever for it to load, but it finally did. I got through the process of making my character and then it locked up on me. Today I have tried several times to load it and it takes a really long time to load and then locks up after I select a free room. Has anyone else had this problem? I don't think it is my computer but I guess it could be. The computer is a bit old, but we have a cable modem connection that is pretty good. Does it always take a long time to load? This is very frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated!

A few things to try to see if it helps:

First, stop running any programs in the background you do not need. I ran a test on VMK memory usage, and it takes up almost 200 Megabytes of RAM!

Second, clear out your browser's cache. Don't know how? just let me know what kind of browser you are using, and I will help you out.

Third, try rebooting your computer then doing step one mentioned above. I've had problems with VMK being buggy and really slow on my PC until I did the above mentioned.

i had a problem on my compaq computer and on my laptop. we have a DSL connection so i didn't think that was the problem. so i bought a Dell and it works great now. you can get a really nice Dell for a pretty good price. hope this helps. good luck

I am also new and I was wondering how do I get to the DIS community VMK room. I have been reading these boards and I am still struggling in VMK.

Also, how would I clean out my cache? I am running XP. Thanks

I created my character, and played VMK once, and then couldn't get back in. I kept on getting internet explorer errors. I finally tried downloading Netscape, and I've been able to get in ever since.

Thanks for the advice and help everyone! I only have 96 MB of RAM! So that is probably a lot of the problem. I got on my DH's computer this afternoon and was able to do everything. When I tried again on mine I was able to get in game and move about but it was lagging big time. After about ten minutes it locked up again. I know that my computer is old and way behind the times but it does most anything I need it to do.
I guess I will just play on DH's computer when he is not on it. That will probably be never since he is at his computer Way more than I am at mine.

I'm going on a whim and guessing you use Internet Explorer, right?


Here's how you do it:


Once Internet Explorer opens, go to the "tools" option at the very top, and them from the menu that drops down, select "Internet Options".

A box will pop up, and you will want to click on the tab labeled "general" if it isn't already selected. Look for a button that says "delete files" then click it.

It will ask you (with another pop-up window) if you want to delete all the temporary files. Hit "ok", then "ok" again at the big pop-up window, and close internet explorer and start it back up again!

When you are in the game, click on the icon that brings up the map (the circle with lines) and in the upper right corner, click "guest rooms"

Next, click on the "popular guest rooms" tab, and type in "Dis" and click on "search"! Now, if you know the name of the exact room you want to go to, just type it in there
