New to this -- Want to buy points for July 11-18

I'd like to purchase points for July 11-18th. First time to do so, would like advice from anyone experienced in this process. Can we use the points at any resort at WDW? How do we know how many points we need? We'd like 3 Bdrms total, or something to fit 6 people...can split.

You could fit 6 people into a 2 bedroom villa. The master bedroom will sleep 2 in a king sized bed and the other bedroom will sleep 4 in some combination of two queens, one queen and one queen or double sleeper sofa depending on where you stay. The living room will also have a queen sized sleeper sofa to make a total of 8 spaces for sleeping.

You are better off using DVC points at DVC resorts. Using them at other Disney resorts are not a real bargain and you can probably do better by using some sort of code.

Say perhaps that you wanted to stay at Old Key West. You would have several options available to you. You could get two studios that would sleep up to 4 people in each, and that would "cost" 218 points. At the usual going rate of $10pp, that is obviously $2180. Studios are bigger than a typical Disney hotel room.
You could also get a one bedroom and a studio. Then you get a full kitchen. That combo would be 327 points. Or, you could just get the two bedroom as was suggested, and that would be 296 points. Most likely you would only use the 1BR/studio combo if it were an availability issue.
