First time going to Disney, family of 6, have no idea how to do anything! I did book our dinners, and our hotels! That's a start right?! Haha
So any advice would be great! Heading there July 10-17, have the 7 day pass(non hop) with dining and I have no idea what the heck fast pass is(or any of the abbreviations you guys use:rotfl:)

Definitely either pick up a guidebook or go to a web site - my favorites are easywdw.com and **************.net and read over their intro/basics sections and progress from there. THEN come back here with any and every specific question you have. DIS is awesome, but not laid out for a step-by-step beginner course and you can easily get bogged down in minutiae.

And, yes, having your resort and restaurants figured out plus looking for more info 6 months out is a great start!! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I figured I was too broad in this post haha, super excited and very overwhelmed! I am easy going, and know I can't plan the whole trip to
The t!

I agree with Mikie. Get a good guidebook like the Easy Guide to Your First WDW Visit or the Unofficial Guide to WDW. You can find both on Amazon. And familiarize yourself with the 2 websites that were recommended. Then take everything one manageable step at a time. Some you've already done.
1.set your dates
2.set your budget and book resort. Buy your park tickets if you aren't doing a vacation package. Set up your MDE account and customize your MBs.
3. Book plane tickets if you're flying
4. Look at the crowd calendar and plan your park days according to which parks are recommended each day.
5. Make ADRs for any TS restaurants, based on which park you will be in each day. You can make these starting 180 days before you check in.
6. Make FP+ bookings 60 days before check in. You can also do online checkin.

You may need to change a few of your ADRs around once you've looked at the crowd calendars, but that's fairly easy to do this far out.

Read the first several pages of this thread to prepare for making your FP+ reservations.

But don't stress about it -- you picked your dates, you have your tickets, and you have your hotels. That's a great start!

Welcome to the Dis Jen! The advice in the posts above is outstanding. I'll just say that, to me, a lot of this planning stuff looks worse on paper (or computer screen) than it is in reality. The reading and learning about the process can actually be a lot of fun. You might enjoy watching some YouTube videos about the parks, and it can help you visualize what you'll be dealing with when you arrive. Just be advised: There's a reason the word "Magic" is bandied about when talking about WDW, and it's addictive ;)

Since you're going in the summer, if you want to see as much as possible, I strongly recommend RideMax ($17, but well worth it IMHO since it saves you at least 2 hours a day, for $3/day). Here's what we do:

Note that step 6 (getting your Fastpasses) should be done 30 days before the first day of your trip (at midnight of that day if you want to get Anna & Elsa meet and greet, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, or Toy Story Mania). If you're staying at a Disney hotel, then you should get them 60 days in advance.

1. First, choose "which day/which park", based on the easywdw calendar. July calendar is here.

2. Select all the rides you want to do in each park (regardless of Fastpasses). Wikipedia and other sites have the rides for each park. YouTube is helpful for a preview if you're not familiar with certain rides. Also note that some rides have height restrictions, which are strictly enforced.

3. Of the rides you want, "assign" your 3 FPs (for each park) based on mesaboy's list.

4. In RideMax, select FP attractions (but not times) (Note that RideMax has tiering built in.) Also add in your dining reservations, and it will plan around those.

5. Then in RideMax, select the rides for each park. RideMax will generate the touring plans, including FP+ times. Ridemax will also tell you if you can't fit all your rides into your allotted times.

6. Then get on MDE to select the FPs, based on the FP times in the RideMax schedule. (after you pick your 3 FPs for each park, you can usually modify the times)

Also, since you're going 7 days, definitely spread Magic Kingdom over two days, and probably Epcot as well. (we like to see the "left half" of MK on one day and the "right half" the other, so we're not traversing the park) Same with Epcot--Future World one day, World Showcase on the other (you can sleep in on that day!). Your kids might enjoy playing Agent P in World Showcase if they're fans of Phineas and Ferb (since kids can get bored in World Showcase otherwise).

Plan in some afternoon hotel rest time for those parks, since afternoon is when the parks are most crowded (and hottest). Return in the late afternoon/early evening for parades and fireworks. Depending on how old your kids are, they may enjoy Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom in the evening, if they've seen all their rides for that day.

Read up on EasyWDW.com or WDWprepschool.com

Check out the crowd calendars for your stay and plot out your days. Rearrange your dining reservations as needed. Then start considering which rides are the most important to you and think about your FP selections.

Don't forget allears.net , it's a great website w/ lots of planning advice, restaurant menus, ride & hotel descriptions, etc. You can even subscribe to their weekly newsletter, it'll show up in your email each week & makes a great read. There's also the Disney Food Blog w/ all kinds of restaurant reviews, I read them even when I don't have a trip booked-be warned though-they will make you hungry..

But the biggest thing I'd say is don't stress-you aren't going to be able to see & do everything Disney has to offer so make some plans, book some dining reservations & enjoy yourselves! Enjoy just being with your family & have fun being on vacation.

So you don't have hoppers but you do have your meals planned. So that probably determines your park order for at least right now. How many days are you going to parks, which ones, etc? Tell us more about your plans! Don't be overwhelmed and ask lots of questions. I have been a ton of times and last time I had to ask so many questions. Everyone will help!
