For Christmas, I just got a pin trading bag. I want to put my pins in it, but am not sure about one thing. The black backings that come on the pins, do you keep them or do most just throw them away? Like most collectibles, I assume the value is higher if it is kept entact. What do most do? Thanks for all replies.

I keep the black mickey ear backs. They actually work pretty well to secure the pins to the pages in my pin bag. We have some pin display boards that don't allow us to put the backs on, but we have some bags that we keep them in.

I also try to keep the cards the pins come displayed on. Most people don't want them in a trade, especially if it's the plain black ones. But, there are some decorated cards that people want to have included in the trade.

I hope this helps. Maggie

I am assuming you mean the black card the pins come on and not the little black things that hold the pin in place.

Okay, I think that most people do not care much about the black cards when trading. I have not heard of anyone asking for it since they are pretty generic except for the price code. However, if it is a different card that adds to the pin, I keep those. One example is the topiary pins from the Flower and Garden festival that actually have info about the topiary on them or the the ones that have a picture that the pin fits on. That said, I keep some of the black cards around so that when I send a trade I have something to put the pin on. I also throw some out when I get too many. After you really start getting pins, those little things accumulate and just seem to take over, you can't keep them all.

As a side note, I keep the extra backs in a jar since I display a lot of my collection on bullentin boards and don't need the backs, still have to keep them for trading at a later date.

I sometimes keep my pins on the black felt hang tags. Esp if they read Limited Edition. That is more for my own use.
If a pin is a keeper, I take it off the backing. I think they stay attached to books and bags much easier off the card. Unless I place the pin/card in a plastic pouch like what holds trading cards.
I have had a few traders state they only trade if the pin is on the original hang tag. (And not a picture tag. Just the generic felt ear tags.) So far they all have been on the original cards.
If I know I will be trading a pin, it always stays on the original card and/or in the plastic bag.

I guess that I will plan to keep the black card that they come on. I do have some backings that are a step up from generic. I'll think of something to do with them.

Thanks again!
