New to this forum; Anyone running the Marin Corp??

Second MCM for me- I did it last year and had a blast.
A good place to stay is in Rosslyn- walk back to your hotel from the finish line. The Metro at that point will be a nightmare!

I am running for the Semper Fi Fund (wounded marines and their families) if anyone wants to sponser me!

:cheer2: We have a group......mini WISH meet perhaps????

Sounds great! Let's keep up the chat :goodvibes

I am a little scared about the walk pace mentioned earlier. I run between a 9 and 10 minute mile; throw the bathroom break or cramp in the mix and that could take me up to who knows what?? During the Chicago I felt a little quesy at mile 18 and had to walk about a quarter mile before I could start running again. Of course it was hotter than blue blazes:sick:I'm hoping this one will be different. If you see me laying out on the side just throw some pity and a little water my way!!!:rotfl:

uh, well, I wasn't worried until now. I'm about a 11-11:30 m/m at that distance! You will be fine. WE will be fine! Yes, let's try to plan on something. I will be meeting up with other friends too but I would love to try and find the WISHers! :thumbsup2

Sabeking: You are going to do fine. It is me you all need to worry about as I can currently maintaining right at a 14 min/mile pace, lol.

Katie, you better hurry up and pick up your Garmin. You are sooo much faster then that. We will all be there supporting each other and we will have to plan a fun gathering.

I am secretly hoping that my old Garmin has been lying to me all this time and that when I pick up my new Garmin I will find that I am so much faster than I thought I was. I felt like I was really booking it this morning on my run, pushing the pace on both the runs and walk breaks and finished with 13:59 as my pace on my watch. I am glad I am full of determination to succeed at the MCM or I may have just thrown in the towel then and there. :P

I have some friends who ran the NYC marathon last year; they are husband and wife. They were not making the pace so they decided at mile 15 to stop and have lunch at an outside bistro and watch the other racers!!!:rotfl: I could do that if there was a Krispy Kreme nearby or Starbucks or Panera Bread or authentic Italian or.......:rolleyes1

Too funny! If I don't start trining more I may be a 15 min pace!!

My favorite t-shirts last year were "If you can read this then I'm not last" and "Hurry, the Kenyans are right behind you!"

I've run the MC 10K and was a DNF (did not finish) last year for the MCM. Although DC is thought to be flat since it is coastal, the MCM has some challenging elevation profiles. The most notorious ones are the 14th St. bridge and the extremely steep, short hill right at the 26-mile mark. The Marines even stationed a drill sergeant on the latter hill to motivate runners to keep at it for the remaining 2/10-mile. There are also a bunch of hills throughout the first 6 miles as you run through Arlington and Georgetown.

As far as lodging, I would recommend anywhere in Rosslyn, Courthouse, or Crystal City. Using metro is fine in the morning, but after the race, the lines into the metro are generally 1-2 hour waits. The best option would be to walk back to your hotel or walk across the Key bridge to Georgetown and catch a taxi.

I will post more if I think of anything further.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately for the $100+ I will probably just wait for the metro.

Is the drill seargant allowed to walk down the hill and carry my butt over it? :lmao:

The MCM staff are fantastic.:thumbsup2
They have arranged for my DH to be at the start line so that my SD can do her job, and then he will go and wait at the info both.
Once they know that I am on my way to the finish line they will give him a escort to the finish line so that my SD can do another test.
They have not asked any questions and have not said that it is a problem, I wish all races where like this!!!!!

Hi! I am running MCM this year. I ran it last year (4:10:39 a PR) and really enjoyed it. Last year there were several WISHers that also ran it (Mike, Stephen, Denny, etc.) also some who ran the 10K. I am running it this year with Judy's(Honeibee's) husband Charlie. My goal is to break 4 hours.

It would be great to meet all of you while we are down there. We are both staying at the Holiday Inn Rossyln near the finish line/family gathering area. I learned my lesson last year when we stayed further away and had to take a hotel shuttle to a Metro stop then two stops to the starting line area.

Best of luck with your training. I'll stop on this thread in the future leading up to the race.

I have to ask anyone else feeling burn out with the training? I am, I have hit the point where there are so many things going on in my life I am burnt out. I'm hoping when the weathers cools down I will feel a little better. I have a 18 miler planned for tomorrow I am trying to talk myself into it.
Good Luck with the training,
Megan

I haven't started yet!!!!!

I'm staying at the Holiday Inn Rossyln too
I was staying at the Ritz Carlton, until the team asked me if I would like to stay with them :worship: and I could not say no to that offer.

I am not sure I would call it burn out but I was feeling the pounding of the pavement getting to me so I dropped one day of running a week and replaced it with two days of spin classes.

For those that have run it how bad are the hills??
Are they steeper that the road ramps at WDW??

The hills encountered during the MCM are definitely more challenging than those encountered at Disney during the half marathon or marathon. No question... especially the "sprint" to the finish near the Marine Corps Iwo Jima Memorial. If hill work is in your training plan, that would be a good thing.

Thanks for the info, I'm not worried about the hill at the end, its the ones at the start, as I need to try to get a good distance away before the runners start!!!!

Syko~ The hills are a challenge. You'll do fine. There was a lot of cooperation among runner and wheeled athletes last year. You will definitely gain some major speed on the downhills and struggle with the up hills. Best of luck!
