New to the Podcast

Hello All!
My name is Laura and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to the podcast and am currently catching up on old podcasts. Right now, Julie is pregnant, and Pete just stepped down. I can't wait for more!
Anyways, I've been on the Dis for quite a while, but more as a lurker. I just discovered the podcast, so I'll hopefully be on this board more often.

Well, a little bit about myself. I'm Laura and I live in the south suburbs of Chicago, IL. I'm an elementary teacher, but didn't land a job this school year. (Thanks economy!) I teach pre-dance at a local dance studio and coach for my old high school dance team. I've been to Walt Disney World three times and am going back January 4-9.

As for how I started listening to the podcast, I started a desk job in August (right after I got back from WDW). I downloaded an app on my Android for radio and searched Disney.The Be Our Guest Podcast came up and became addicted to that one. On ITUNES I searched for other ones and discovered the DIS Unplugged! I downloaded all of the episodes up to 2009. I am officially addicted. I feel like I know the Podcast team!

It must be Chicago lurkers come out time. I also live in the south suburbs of Chicago.
I've been to Disney 24 times and will be a Disney bride in February.

One night, a couple years ago, I was housesitting for my parents and bored. While lurking here on the Dis, I decided to download an episode. I think it was the "get to know the Podcasters" episode. I immediately started to download past episodes until I was caught up. My commute to and from work can kill at least one episode. Once I was caught up, I was bored and lonely in my car. I tried a couple other Disney podcasts but, no one could keep my attention like the Unplugged gang. I have recently discovered Wedway Radio, which I enjoy, so it's nice to have 2 to listen to.
I think one of the main reasons I love Unplugged is because they stray from Disney every now and then. We'll be moving down to Florida next year and I really like that this group is made up of non-Floridian Floridians, if that makes sense. I love it when they talk about other parts of Florida. And I especially get a kick out of Pete saying he can't get out of Publix without dropping $100 at least. I love Publix!

Wow. Sounds like a very interesting bunch of un-lurkers here. You should fit in well with this group. Let me tell you a little about myself:

I'm Jeff and have been a Disney fan for a real long time. Grew up watching Wonderful World of Color on Sunday nights and the original Mickey Mouse Club during the week. Had dreams of going to Disneyland one day but the reality was that we weren't at all likely to make a cross-country trip on the money dad made in our local mill.

Went through a stage in my life where Disney wasn't "cool", but then somehow the urge re-emerged. Got sent to Orlando for a seminar and managed a half day at the MK (all that was there at the time). It was wonderful. After that, trips to Orlando started to get more frequent. By the late 80's I had an Annual Pass. In the 90's I was attending Disneyanna Conventions and meeting groups of friends there. An especially fateful day was December 8, 1994 when I met Valerie at Old Key West (hence my screen name). We've been married now 14+ years and visit WDW at least 4 times a year.

Welcome to everyone! For our newer folks, I'm Nancy from the Disneyland Podcast Team - can't tell by my DIS moniker!

I was a listener like y'all, until Pete gave the call for folks to cover Disneyland for them. One "obsessively detailed" audition tape later, et voila! I started down the path that has led to our branch of the DIS Unplugged!

With as many trips as I've had, I'm surprised I only found the Dis a few years ago. But it's such a nice feeling to not be alone in my Disney obsession.
I don't know what took me so long to come out of the lurking closet.

You could start a new thread asking if anyone will be at WDW during the time you are. Also there is a Dis Meet board you can look at and post there as well.

WOW. I totally read the original post wrong. I thought you were saying you are new to the podcast TEAM because Julie is pregnant and Pete stepped down! I spent the past 10 minutes trying to figure out what podcast I missed where this was all announced! Then I thought how odd it was that they would have a teacher move down to Orlando just to be part of the round table... thats when I got suspicious and re-read the post. Haha silly me.
