Hello, everyone! I'm new to the boards. I heard about it from my sister who also posts here. I've lurked for a few days, but I just can't stay quiet for too long!

About me: I'm a Disney fan for sure, though not as big of one as my sister. I don't know how many times I've been, the first time was in the '80's when I was about 5 years old. The most recent time was just this past weeked when my sisters suprised me with my trip at an onsite resort for our birthdays (we are all in November). We stayed at the Dolphin resort and it was FABULOUS!! Since we arrived, I began planning my family's first trip together.

I am from South Portland, ME originally, but have lived in Charlotte, NC, Deltona, FL & (currently) Madison, AL. My husband and 2 younger children have never been to WDW and now that I've gone back for the first time in 12 (yes, TWELVE) years, I plan for us to go as a family hopefully in January of 2012. My ticker in my signature is based on an estimated arrival date, I will update once plans are made.

I'm also interested in maybe participating in one of the races as well, sometime in the future. While we were there this weekend, my sister showed us some of the route she ran in the most recent Wine & Dine 1/2 marathon. I don't know that I'm ready for a 1/2 marathon, but I think I could handle a 10k (with some training).

I'm thinking of using either Dreams Unlimited or Small World Vacations to help book the trip as I'm a complete newbie when it comes to booking vacations like this. Usually we all pack in our van and drive to Maine for a week in the summer and stay with my parents, I've never had to book hotels, think about ADRs or anything like that! Kinda overwhelmed just thinking about it and I'm not even close to the point that most people would get overwhelmed!

Anyhoo, just wanted to leave a quick intro, sorry for the book! I look forward to learning as much as piossible here while we get ready to experience WDW for the first time as a family. :goodvibes

:welcome: to the DIS! And I bet your kids are getting excited already. :goodvibes

pkondz - thanks for the welcome! My kids aren't excited yet because I haven't told them. It would be a very long year + if they knew now. I've thought about either not telling them until we get there (we would drive) or telling them as part of their Christmas present the week before. But I love those commercials that are out of kids reacting to finding out they're going to Disney and I want to do something like that. :D

Oh I know! Aren't those great? My DDs would be thrilled with a surprise but then probably upset because they didn't have time to plan and save. I kind of thought you might not have told your kids yet (long time), but when you do, I'm sure it'll be great! :thumbsup2

Yes, the commercials make me cry! I'm such a sap! :rolleyes2 I might be able to tell my oldest a little earlier since he'll be 16, if I think he can keep the secret. Well, gosh, he'll be 16, so he'll be working, he'll need to know something is going on to get enough notice in to get the time off. But, darn it, I will have that magic moment of them finding out! I will!!!! I'm almost as excited for that as I am for the actual trip! :rotfl:

Aww I hope everything goes well for you :goodvibes
I was surprised the day before my first trip in 2001 when I was 9  A long time ago now but it led to an addiction :lovestruc good luck :thumbsup2
