New to the addon dreams...

I've been thinking about adding on, but I don't know much about the process. I realize I would have to be on a waitlist for BWV or BCV. My use year is February, and I gather Disney will only sell me February points. If the addon were to come through before the end of 2003, would I get 2003 points? Or would the points start in 2004, since February is past? I'm thinking I should wait a little, if the points will be available in 2004 at the earliest.
Are there any other points I should keep in mind? I believe you all have considerable experience with addons! Thanks for your help!

If you buy through Disney you will need February Use year. If you look at resales and it is less than 150 pts, you need a Feb use year. If it is 150 or over it does not need be a Feb use yaer but could get confusing.
History tells me I have a better chance telling you my points available than my Drivers License number because I love my DVC so much. Accounting isn't an issue for me. I have also heard some say it is confusing. This is why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors of Ice cream, we all like something different!

Now I am a little confused

I agree with the statement about your use year having to be the same when buying add-ons through Disney.

But....I have never gotten the impression that the use year through a resale had to be the same.

I am in the process of puchasing through a resale broker and the contract I am looking at most definitely has a different use year and this one is for under 150 pts. Nothing was said or asked by the broker about my original use year.

If you buy from Disney for less than 150 points, it needs to be the same use year.
If you buy from Disney for 150 or more points, it can be any use year. (It would be another membership if not the same use year).
If you buy resale, it can be any use year, regardless of number of points. (However, I wonder if a very small resale of say 25 or 50 points, with a different use year, might encourage Disney to exercise ROFR).

It was my understanding that a different use year represented a different contract. A stand alone contract has to have at least 150 pts, right? I am not certain about this but it is what I understood. Doc, do you have any info here?

I've been involved in two resale tranactions, and the agent never even asked if I owned DVC. I'm fairly certain you can purchase different use years from resale.
The reason I wrote the post, however, was to get this question answered: if I buy February use year addon from Disney, would I get 2003 points, or nothing until 2004? So far, no one has answered that part of the question. If I don't get points until February, 2004, it might make sense to wait a little. Cab anyone advise? Thanks

I believe if you purchase Feb use year now you would get points in back to 2003 and in your up coming use year get your annual points. I say this because I was told that if I purchased add on points I get either the discont off price or the points. then is my Aug 04 use year get my annual points.
