New to PIN trading

Do you have any pins yet? If not they can be found everywhere at the parks. For me it works two ways, I buy ones from the store that I like an appeal to me e.x. Nerds, cruise line, wall-e, and funky Mickey heads (patterns and such). The second part is sometimes I can fid pins on sale at outlets or get deals online when dis store has sale going on and I usually just grab whatever and take with me to parks. Once you have ones you want to trade, go up to cm's with a lanyard and ask if you can take a look at what they have. I don't buy any off eBay bc theres too much risk of scrappers, or knock offs.

Now. I have a friend who pretty much only collects limited edition ones and limited holiday ones like Christmas and leap year 2012 or last year was earth day pin.

Hope that what you were looking for!

Im also new to pin trading, and I bought some on Ebay for my trip down there in Sept. They have some good deals on there

The best way to start pin trading is to either buy a set of pins or get some cheap pins off ebay. You get more pins for less money. If you buy individual pins that are say $20.00 each, you may trade it for a pin that is only cost the other person $5.00. You can trade with cast members or guests in parks. Cast members ALWAYS have to say yes to an offer. You can get 2 pins a day from a cast member. Guests however, can decline your trade offer. You can trade as many pins as you want with guests. :offtopic: Winnie the Pooh pins are my favortie to trade:offtopic: There also are pin books or boards that are at various places in the parks. Some are out all the time, other only come out at certain hours. You can only trade two pins from a board or book per day. Some people like to collect a theme of pins, such as disney princces. Others may just go for random pins. A great thing to get in you are going to be a serious pin trader is a pin trading book. You can store pins in the book if you have alot. I have a small pin trading book and a large pin trading book. I have never lost any pins while storing them in a book, and are very easy to fit in a bag and carry around the park. You can also buy pouches that you can clip onto something. I usally put the pins I would like to trade in them. There are also lanyards to buy. I have 5 lanyards but I do not bring them with me on my trips because, I have lost 2 pins while walking around the park wearing a lanyard. I didnt notice the pins fell off and I was upset to have lost them. Pins usually come with a black mickey backing. Sometimes the backs fall off, and so the pin falls out also. There are gold backs that you can buy around the parks. They are tighter and you screw them on with a mini wrench thing. These NEVER fall off. The most important element of pin trading is to have fun. Enjoy yourself while trading and enjoy your trip! Hope this helped. :)

Buying pins from eBay can be hit or miss, there are many many many scrapper sellers on eBay who are just out to make a quick buck and don't care about the actual hobby itself. There is a separate thread here on the Collector's Board about buying pins on eBay, please do read it. :)

The brass locking backs are great for keeping pins in place, but unless you plan on keeping that pin, they can be a pain to use when it comes to trading. I locked all my pins on my lanyard one trip and it was a royal pain when I wanted to trade, to unlock it and put the Mickey back on.

Definitely read the ebay sellers thread to find good, legit, cheap pins to trade.

I have lost a couple of pins here and there over the years while getting on and off rides, etc. And, it can be disappointing. So, if it is something I really want to keep it doesn't go on the lanyard, but in my special pouch I have on a Disneyland purse I got a few years ago that I use for all my Disney trips. But, I figure my loss may be someone else's found and spread a little magic to them.
