We are coming in Dec. this year and usually stay at POR. But this time my sister and her neice will be joining us so there will be 6 total.

My sister has not been to Disney in several years and never stayed on property. My dilema is do we do 2 seperate rooms at POR or another mod. or do we do a cabin. There are pros and cons to staying together, but I know the kids would love it!

We will have our car and don't eat at the resort so food and transportation are not an issue. Neither is the kitchen b/c we usually eat a granola bar and head out for park openings.

A few questions:

Can you reccomend a loop? We always do the sleigh ride and love the festive atmosphere. Last year I remember 2 cabins off to the side of the route that the sleigh ride took. I would love to be in/near the area.

Also, although we won't using the buses, my son wears leg braces and tires easily when walking. He does not use a wheel chair and does walk indepently but would love to be close to a pool (either main pool, quiet pool) so he could get there easliy.

I would prefer not to have to ride the bus to get to the pool. Golf carts are probably not in the budget either. Any suggestions on the loop?

It is also my understanding that if you have more than one car, only 1 can be parked at the cabin, correct?

And finally, is there a safe in the cabins like there is in the other hotels?

This would probaly be our only chance to stay in a cabin, since we have 6 people and it is more expensive than a mod. room with only 4 for future trips with our family only.

Thanks for the help!!

If you google "fort wilderness map" you will see that the 2500 and 2600 loops are the closest to the pool by the cabins. We were there in April and I can tell you that walking to the main pool would be quite a hike for somebody who tires easily. Our cabin was right in the middle of a loop and it was a long walk from the bus stop after a full day at the parks. So I would request a cabin close to the bus stop.

There is a safe in the cabin. I don't know about the 1 car per cabin rule, but I can tell you there were several cabins with 2 compact cars parked there. You are not gonna get 2 full size SUV's in the parking spot.

Have fun.

The 2 cabins off to the side of the route that the sleigh ride took are in the 100 loop and are for VIP's only

Hello there! :wave2: We stayed in the 2100 loop back in 2007 and I am going to request it again in June. The bus stop is just across the way and you can be there in a minute or 2! The pool is a little farther...a bit of a walk but I think it is manageable.... the Trading Post is right by the big pool too and it is nice to be relatively close to that too... However, looking at the map, if you don't mind which pool you are close to, it looks like the 2500 loop might be close to the bus and the quiet pool...so maybe that would be better for you..?? Just a thought. We loved it there...can't wait to go in June!!! Have a great trip!!

There might be another option for you, there are some people on this forum that rents and setup a camper (5th wheel). It should handle 6 ok. They bring it to the Loop you reserve and setup and meet you there and then take down and back. I understand its a little cheaper than a Cabin. That way you can be near the main pool and bus stop. The 5th wheel on our last trip was setup next to us.

Here are my answers:

There are two cabins down in the 100 loop close to Pioneer Hall and the marina. They cannot be requested/reserved but they are offered to guests on a random basis. Those were probably the ones you saw on the sleigh ride.

For a cabin loop recommendation refer to the Fort map http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/FWMap.pdf.

To close to the quiet pool and a bus stop you might request 2500 or 2600. Call the main WDW ressie line and have the CM pull up your ressie and add a request to be close to the cabin/quiet pool and a bus stop. Fort assigners will attempt to fill your request if they get the info on your ressie.

Although you say a golf cart is out of the budget have you considered Kenny at Tee Time Golf Carts? He averages about $35/day for a minimum 3-4 day rental which is about half the Disney rate. He drops off and picks up there at the Fort and is well respected on this board.

It is one car per cabin. Other vehicles can park in the check-in lot but make sure you get a car pass so you can leave it there overnight.

I recall the cabins do have a safe in the bedroom closet. Other safe deposit boxes are available at the check-in area.

You'll love staying in the cabins - they're very relaxing and perfect for a larger group. You'll love having the full kitchen/fridge/stove to cook a few cheap meals, watch some tv, and sleep in the flip-down Murphy bed.

Enjoy!

Thank you everyone! I knew the fort experts would come through!!

I looked at the map and it looks like there is only 2 pools - the main pool which does not appear to be close to any cabins and then the quiet pool which is closest to 2500 and 2600. Is one closer than the other (2500 or 2600) to the quiet pool?

2500 and 2600 both are right infront of each other but 2500 is a much smaller loop so your cabin maybe a shorter walk to the pool than a cabin in the 2600 loop

Let me add that the map I linked to is a little out of date. The orange bus line now runs up through the cabin road so the cabin folks have a direct transporation link to the Meadow Trading Post, Main Pool, and Campfire/singalong area.

Enjoy!

I was able to stay there the last two times I booked cabins at Fort Wilderness.
I was told they were VIP only by the girl that checked me in both times.
