Thanks to everyone for their fabulous information about National. I joined the emerald club and made my reservation. We will be arriving on Sat 12/15 at about 4:00-I'm not sure what I am supposed to do...something about proceeding directly to the emerald aisle and picking out my car???? Where do I get the keys, where do I pay, etc. Any help from experts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sprout! We just got back and I was very disappointed in EA at National (see post). HOWEVER...all you have to do after you get your suitcases is walk out to the garage (no need to stop in at the National counter) and pick up any car you want that is on the Emerald Aisle row. If there are none, you can go to the row for the size car you reserved and take one of those. At the checkout booth as you leave the National parking area, they will want to see your license, your car insurance policy (if you aren't buying their coverage), your Emerald Aisle membership card, and any coupons for discount codes you may have used when you made your ressie. When you return (with a very full tank of gas) the will simply check that the tank registers full (they asked my bil for the gas receipt to see where and when he filled the tank, but not me) and then scan the bar code on the car and give you a receipt. Since you had to list a credit card when you registered for EA, all charges will automatically go onto that. Good luck- or at lteast better luck than I had!

Hi Sprout!
You will just need to head to the level where the car rental counters are located and go out to the National/EA in the garage. Pick out a car from EA or one from the category that you've rented, whichever. (also, there are two EA's at the airport..if one is empty...walk to the other side..its a bit of a trek but not too bad) At the window, you will need your drivers license, any coupons you may have used...and your EA card or at least the number and credit card. I have never in 13+ rentals been asked for proof of insurance and I use them very frequently. As long as you are covered via your personal ins or thru your CC you should have no problem. I also let them refill the tank because the charge is usually about what the gas station would charge anyhow so why waste time refilling my tank? I'm too busy siteseeing...lol

It shocks me to see that someone had a bad time with EA (the previous poster) because I have never ever had a problem with EA or any employee working on it. They are always the utmost courteous with me. The last time I found an empty EA (about 1 yr back) they told me to take an SUV, so of course we did! :) As with any type of establishment (whether car rental, hotel, etc) if you encounter anything unsatisfactory, ASK TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER IMMEDIATELY! (and for the record, the longest I have ever been out at National in the garage is approx 15 minutes, I have never waited any longer for a car) I can usually get our luggage, find a car, check out...and I am out of the airport in less than 30 minutes from touchdown of the plane! Its wonderful!

Just always remember, like my grandmama taught me...you will catch MORE flies with honey than vinegar anyday....!

have a great trip!

EC & EA are great. All the other answers are correct on process. I don't refill the gas anymore. They charge a fair price to fill them up. Last week it was $1.19/ gallon. Also was never asked for proof of insurance. By the way, the keys are usually over the d/s visor. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for your help-it seems a bit more clear now. When I signed up for the emerald aisle club on the internet, I declined receiving a card and just recorded my membership number. Should I also print out the email confirmation they sent me just in case? Also, I am returning the car at 6:00 am, will someone be there to check me back in?

You're right weather was GREAT!

Sprout - someone will be there to check you in. If you don't have the card, bring your ressie and at least EC number and explain the situation to the cleark. You should be fine.
