New to DVC

We have just returned from WDW and have Decided to buy into DVC after sitting through the presentation at SSR. We are going to buy into AKV because we love that hotel. We would like to go down for about five days in June to have some time to rest and realx before going on our cruise in July. My questions are will the paper work go through quick enough to be able to use our points and will we be able to get a reservation at the AKV or anywhere?

I know you cannot get a reservation at the Villas at AK, since they are not making those rooms available until September 1st.

I have seen on here something about not being able to use AKV points at other resorts for reservations before September 1st either, unless you take the developer points.......I am sure someone who has purchased at AK can explain it. The whole thing confused me a bit and I didn't pay much attention, since we thought about adding on there, but we don't have a trip planned before 9/1 anyway, so that would not have affected us.

As far as availability if you are able to use your points, if you buy direct through Disney, your points become available very quickly, I think within a few days of paying the deposit and/or downpayment. So you can book fast. June can be busy, but if you are willing to be flexible on resort and view, you may find something. Good luck!!!

Thanks for your answer after reading back over some of the info I realized that AK would not be open yet. Hopefully we will be able to stay somewhere else.
