I am new to dvc this vacation. I bought at ssr, starting with 160 points. I may want to add about 20-40 points and want to know if I buy them on the timeshares store site, maybe at another resort, can I still use them with my original points? Am I better off buying them through disney for ssr? I'm a little green on all of this. thanks

Hi,

Congrats & welcome home!!!! You can buy more points through disney or a timeshare site. If you go through a timeshare site though you will most likely have to pay closing costs. Unless you were to buy more SSR points, you have to treat them as seprate contracts. They can't be combined!!! Hope this helps.

Allison did a nice job describing your options.::yes::

Just want to say Welcome Home! :earsboy:

Take a good look at the point charts for SSR and the other villas. Is 160 points enough to meet your needs? Will 200 be enough?

If so, stop there and try them for a couple of vacations. I have 300 and will be spending most of my time at Beach Club Villas. I will add 50-points in a couple of years to make 2-bedroom villas for one week possible for most times of the year. It is just a matter of what fits your families needs! Have fun.:cool1: :cool1:

Congratulations and welcome home!

My a fellow recent new member @ SSR and also wanting to add on, especially based on the pending price increase. I was OK with buying in site unseen, but wanted to visit before adding on.

Welcome to the Dis-Boards and Welcome Home. Most people don't catch the dreaded "add-on-itis" until they start reading posts on this board. You caught it early.

And WELCOME to The DIS Boards!

Congratulations and Welcome Home!

We too are recent SSR members. We bought site (SSR) unseen and have no second thoughts.

We did do the tour at WDW in December but decided to hash it out at home before making a decision. Eventually (after tax season) we decided and started out with a contract for 250 pts. Looking at the point chart, this would get us a 1 bedroom home for 7 days throughout each season except the Premier. Which we have no desire to be at WDW during that time.

After giving it some thought, and for various reasons we decided to cut it back to 200 pts., and would do an add on later (maybe next year), so we sent in our paperwork etc...

Soon after that we heard (from this board of course) of the price increase. So we contacted our guide about adding 50 more pts to our account before the increase. (Our orginal contract was for 200 pts. with the $5 per point price break (PPB).)

He said we could do a sub-contract for the additional 50, but we couldn't get the $5 PPB unless we got 100 pts. or more. But, he said that since we were still within our 15 day cancellation period, we could cancel the 200 pt. contract, keep our Feb. UY and start a new one for 250 with the $5 PPB for all points.

So we gave it some thought and since we weren't planning on going to WDW until Jan. 05, and we still had our Feb. UY, we would use the automatic $5 PPB and the Magical Beginings $5 PPB and get the 250 pts. for $79. Now we're going 30 days later in Feb. 05. Looking back about 3 weeks now, the $79 per point doesn't look so bad anymore.

IMO, read, read and read this board! I (the nutty DH) read this board several times a day, learning something new each time. (DW says I'm a psycho.) From scheduling trips to missing spatula's, these people know their DVC stuff. Good luck!
