New to DVC rentals

Hi all!

My boyfriend and I are interested in going to Aulani next year and we have some questions. what is the advantage of booking DVC points rather than just booking thru Aulani? Is it a difficult process to rent points? Is there a savings if you use points?

The advantage is that you save 30-50% on your vacation compared to rack rates from Disney.

The process is not difficult you need to find an owner with aulani points who wish to rent. To do that you may look in the rent/trade board here on DIS.

Another option is to go through a rental company, but they rely on finding an aulani-owner who wants to rent. Since the rental companies take a cut you might have more luck using the rental board here on DIS.

Have in mind renting points also have some restrictions most owners do not allow a refund/cancellation if you can't go. This would be the same if you used the rental companies.

Although Aulani often has some good cash deals. It would really be comparing the cost of a rental to a cash stay to see what is better. Also, as mentioned it generally means no cancellation when doing a rental. Housekeeping is also not daily with a DVC point stay but would be with a cash rental. At Aulani parking would be included but be extra with a cash stay.

Parking at Aulani is currently $37/day for folks on a cash stay and free (for up to 2 vehicles) for folks staying on points.
