Ok. hello everyone. I am very new to this, is like reading a medical book. My family and I are planning to go to WDW ** and would like to stay at the **. From what I have researched, I understand that it will require 54 points, right???. So the cost of each point is $13 right??? So if I am looking to "rent" points to stay at ** I would have to ask for 54 points???? I'm I correct:confused3

Had no idea where to post for newbie questions, if in the wrong place, sorry and delete. No harm intended.

It looks like you will need 2 week nights @ 13 points each and 2 nights @ 14 points each or 54 points. The price per point is set by the DVC owner who is renting out the points, but you could expect to pay $10 - $13/point. That is a popular time at DVC resorts, so you would be wise to post your request about 12 months before your travel dates so that you can find someone before the 11 month window to book the reservation begins. You will want to discuss when payment is due and how funds are transferred and cancellation policy. Good luck! You are wise to plan ahead so you understand the process before you begin.

thanks to all for the quick response. One question though how in the world or where in this forum can help me calculate the points needed??? Trust me, to be honest I don't even know how I came sooooo close to the actual 64 points needed.

Some details (such as dates, resort, villa type) have been edited out of this thread so as not to be construed as a seeking rental post. Those details may be posted on our DVC Rent/Trade when ready to post for the rental..

Just sent you a PM. :)

You won't really be renting any points. You will be renting a reservation from a member. So if you post on the Rent/Trade Board, you will request a reservation from date to date at whatever location you want, whatever type of villa you want. Then members with points will respond to your message. Find someone you feel comfortable with and rent the reservation from them. It may be more or less than $13 a point. Just depends on the member.

But, remember this, you don't have any control over this reservation at all until you check into the resort. You cannot talk to Member Services about this reservation because you are not the member who made the reservation with their points. Should you need to change dates or cancel, you might not be able to do it. And you might not be able to get a refund. Think of it as a Priceline reservation.

Ok. I got it know. basically you can even say how much you are willing to pay for each pp, depends I guess on what week you want to go. If I am renting a reservation and want to make sure that week is available, there is room in your prefered resort, can you ask the person to have a 3 way calling with DVC and then make the deal with them???? Is this allowed here???

thank you guys

I'd recommend reading all the stickies about renting. Some members will do a three way call, but it really doesn't offer you protection as all they have to do is call back and cancel the reservation when you are off the phone. Also, some Cast Members at Member Services see themselves as the rental police so a three way call MIGHT have some risk for the member of getting told that rentals aren't allowed (it depends on how you interpret the contract the DVC member signed when they bought points). The member has control of the reservation at all times. This is a transaction between two private parties. The VAST majority of these go well, but if that makes you stressed, the peace of mind offered by a Central Reservations reservation may be worth the extra money.

Additionally, understand the cancellation parameters of DVC - these will likely vary from member to member you rent from (possibly from reservation to reservation depending on where your trip is in their use year), but its probably a good idea to consider all DVC rental transactions non-refundable. I suspect most transactions people aren't happy with have more to do with the problems involved in canceling or trying to reschedule.

Like Crisi said, the member could cancel the reservation at any time if they intended to cheat you. And you could make this three way call to DVC, hang up, make a deal with the member and the reservation is gone when they call back. You can't deal with the member while they are on the phone with MS.

You are much better off finding someone who you trust, who makes you feel comfortable than jumping through hoops like you suggest with the three way call and deciding afterward. Lots of members might consider that too much work, consider you too needy and just drop it all.
