We're looking to rent our points, but I have no idea where to begin. I've been reading threads and general posts online and on the DISboards for a while, but it's confusing. Some things I'd like to know (so far):

- How you set up agreements/payments (general rules of thumb)
- Is it worth it to involve a "middle-man" or broker

Thanks!

There isn't much risk for you renting points out. You get your money up front and book the room in their behalf. The risk is mostly on the renter which is why most renters will want to involve the broker as protection against you not paying dues, canceling the reservation, etc... You may also have to use the renters credit card to book meal plans, etc.
From what I've heard a broker will pay about 12 per point and charges the renter around 15. If you really want that 3 dollar spread you can look for a renter on your own. You can find dvc brokers contracts online with a quick search and just copy that I suppose. Good luck!

I involved a middleman for my sanity. Depending on where you own points, you could get up to $15/pp. I used David's who I believe is a sponsor of this site. I got 70% up front and will get the other 30% when they check in. The people at David's have been very easy to deal with, I highly recommend using them.

Another vote for David's DVC Rentals! We decided to rent points last Sunday afternoon. The points were rented by 10am Monday morning. It is such an easy process. The people working for David's are very professional and efficient. We got $13/point for a reservation between 7-11 months for our home resort - BLT. 70% of the rental was in our paypal account on Monday afternoon! We'll get the other 30% when the renters check in. I would definitely use David's again.

I also have used David and have been very pleased with the service. Well worth having professionals do it for you.

I have never done it, but I would use a broker.

Renting them out yourself basically puts all the risk on the renter (as you can cancel the ressie, not pay your dues, etc) For this risk, an informed renter is going to want a price cut, vs. a broker wanting their 'cut'.

Again, I have never done it, but if i were to, I would just use David's and be done with it. (Unless you have friends or close contacts that might rent them).

I think DIY requires patience and abundant free time.

Just go read a few threads in RENT/TRADE and if you roll your eyes frequently, definitely consider a broker.

Thanks for all the responses! We have 157 points to rent so I think we're probably going with a broker.
