New to DVC - HELP!

Okay, so we are sure we are becomming members and are making our deposit Friday. Our plan is to take the incentive offering points. (Buying 160 points, so we will get 320 incentive points to use in 12 month period).

I know all of the facts about the DVC, but am still on the fence about buying AK Villas, mostly because the AK Villas are so far away from everything. For example, we would never stay at AK Lodge, because it is so out of the way.

I know you do not have to stay there, but still, to own that property and be that far away --- so I'm looking for thoughts on this either way.

Also, in the back of my mind I worry about them not completing the new construction at AK Villas and then I'm stuck!
Do you think I'm crazy?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

If you don't love AKV, and don't see yourself staying there often, I would buy at a different resort. Perhaps SSR. I don't see the "far out" thing as a problem, because we have stayed at AKL, and thought the bus service was VERY good, just as it is at OKW and SSR. On the other side of the coin, we have stayed at BW, and thought the bus service was awful, and felt compelled to walk to two parks instead of ride (think the boat is slow too).

I would not worry about them not building Kidani House, because construction is already started. If you don't love the theme, don't purchase where you don't intend to stay.

So basically, SSR is just as long a bus ride to and from the parks as AK Villas?

I like the theme of AK Villas and am excited the villas will be brand new!

The old addage still is true: Buy where you want to stay. If you love the AKV theme and villas and will stay there most of the time, then buy there. If you plan on staying at other DVC resorts most of the time, then buy elsewhere. Two major factors come to mind. First is the reservation windows. You have the advantage of booking at 11 months at your home resort, but if you plan on staying elsewhere most of the time, you can only book at 7 months. Why not make one of the others your home resort? The second factor is your annual dues or maintenance fees. Again, if staying elsewhere most of the time, why pay a possible higher fee to maintain a resort you don't spend much time at? Pick a different resort with lower fees.
