Hi all, I wanted to ask ....How long before you saw a DIFERANCE in how you look?

I have been seriously choosing food carefully, I portion ,plan and have stuck to a new life style religiosly (except for today, I feel off the wagon:sad1: )
I have added excercise, water fruits and veggies. Lean meat done on grill or 3 ounces of tuna.I eliminated soda, chips and junk food in general COMPLETELY!
What more can I do. All this and only 12 lbs. since January. Is this normal? I can still wear my clothes though they are a little less snug. I just feel like I should be seeing more results. I know it took years for the weight to fully accumalate but goodness 12lbs in 4 months!!!!
I had chinese food and soda twice today and feel so like a quiter and a loser right now... and then skimming on this site looking for some Disney smile I find W.I.S.H. Any imput anyone....please!

Don't be discouraged!!! Any amount of weight loss is a good weight loss! Maybe you need to change up your exercise routine. Are you eating 6 small meals a day? Have you tried using WW point system? I lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks. Drink lots of water!

Hang in there! Welcome to the DisBoards!

Come on over to the Disappearing peeps thread for some great tips and support! They are the best, and have really helped me with my weight loss effort. (and they're funny, to!)

And look at it this way...better 12 lost than 12 gained!

I have weeks where I do GREAT, then I crash---HARD---All you can do is keep trying. If you keep trying, eventually the weight will come off...maybe not as fast as you want.

It seems like I can put on 5 pounds over a bad weekend, yet those same 5 pounds that go on so d*rn easy take a HUGE effort to get off.

Why I don't know.

Good luck!:goodvibes

The good news is that because that weight was lost slowly, it is more likely to stay off than if you had lost it rapidly.

The other good news is (not to sound like a commerical) you are 12 pounds healthier!

I don't know what your exercise routine is, but maybe you could try and boost your metabolism by adding more to your routine.

Work hard at your exercise routine. Speaking from experience, if you want to drop pounds, do cardio and lots of it. Toning and strengthening are important too, but to shed pounds, you should be huffing and puffing and sweating and falling down dead tired, if possible (ok, disclaimer - don't do this you're not well, medically.) Jog if you can (again, don't hurt yourself.) When your workouts become easier, make them harder.

You are definitely on track with your nutrition and good for you! That is where I always fail. Miserably. But I like to exercise - strenuously and often - and that's the ONLY thing that saves me. And thank goodness because ice cream season is upon us!

Keep up the good work - you are on track!

I am in the same boat....Since right after January, my weight loss has seriously slowed down too, yet I am doing almost everything I should. I guess I don't have any advice since I am living it myself, but I am going through it with you....kinda discouraging. Just keep pushing along, and don't quit, We'll get there. :thumbsup2

I am a VERY slow loser. I have a thyroid problem and I'm on meds, BUT, I still lose very, very slowly.

I am a very healthy eater, I measure and weigh my food about 80% of the time (I do much better when I weigh 100% of the time).

I excercise regularly (elliptical and weights).

I've only lost about 18 pounds since January. I lost about 15 pounds ALL of 2007. BUT, I am about 75 pounds lighter than 12 years ago!

I try not to give up, but I've accepted the fact that my body loses weight very slowly.

Don't give up. Keep eating well and exercise more. Good Luck

GREAT ADVICE!!!

your body can truly be your own worst enemy! it will get used to what you are doing to it. your metobolic rate will adjust according to the amount of calories you day in, and it will also adjust (quite rapidly actually) to what type of excerise you do. so you basically have to play tricks on your body. try something different. see what kind of classes are offered at your gym. you'll have to keep switching it up and always being one up on your own body.

oh, and about the "falling off the wagon", believe me honey, we ALL have. just don't let the guilt be too much, cause it can eat you up, and then in turn you'll just keep on eating (you'd think i'm talking from experience or something ;) ) Just remember, it was one (or two) times, get over it, and keep on moving :cool1:

From 1/7 to 3/21 I lost 10.8 lbs. I was looking to lose 10 lbs a month! :headache: Then of course I got discouraged and gained 3 back! :sad2:
I think that type of weight loss is normal. I average about a lb a week, but never that consistently (down 0.8, up 0.2, down 2.5, sort of thing).

Don't get discouraged....I have lost and gained the same 4 lbs. since January. But at least I know it's there and needs to be handled.....so that 4 lbs. does not become 5 or 10 lbs. One day of splurge is not failure....sometimes one bad day causes you to dig a little deeper. Your weight loss the last 4 months is great. I firmly believe each of us need to set small goals and then be sure to treat yourself when you reach them. Don't cut yourself short.....the first step in losing weight is facing the scales ( which you have already accomplished) the next step is understanding this is a life transistion and you have lots of time to fill with lots of success!:thumbsup2

Weight that comes off slowly is far better than weight that drops fast. It is proven that weight that comes off slower is more likely to stay off in the long run. In fact the healthy amount of weight loss should be 1-2lbs per week.

When I was trying to lose my weight it seems as if I dropped a bit of weight initally then I stagnated for a bit. At about the 8 -9 month mark it started to melt off again so don't worry.

I always like to think of it a couple of ways:
1 - I didn't gain the weight overnight, I sure won't lose it that fast either.
2 - Time is going to pass if I exercise/eat right or not, would I rather keep plugging away and weigh less and become healthier or would I still like to be the same way I am xx months from now.

And if you are building muscle, you could be replacing that fat with more denser muscle which will make your weight loss seem less initially, but even you said that your clothes are starting to fit better so that is great.

The scale can be the enemy sometimes!
