Well I am in the midst of planning a new vacation.. This year my Mom and I want to try something new with Disney and try a Cruise. We have never Cruised before and have a few questions. Ok here goes:

1) My mom wants to know because when she goes on the ferry from RI to Block Island she gets kinda green if she doesn't sit on the top and look out. How bad is the motion on the cruise boats?? How sea sick will she be?? She takes other meds and doesn't want to live on dramamine or Bonine thats if she can take them with her current meds?

2) We were originally looking at 4 night Cruise on the Wonder since we haven't cruised before but after looking at costs we Could do a 7-day for not much more but based on what happens with question 1 we are unsure if maybe it might be too much? Would you do a 4 or 7 day Cruise?

3) If someone has dietary restrictions (I am going to be a few months into a gastric bypass and won't be eating more then a bite a few hours) do they do things to help with restrictions? Who would i contact? I am going to book through a TA do i tell them?

4) Would you suggest a Catergory 5 or Catergory 6? We thought a verandah room might help with my mom's concern. What rooms should we look into reserving?

We are looking into Cruising in May 2006.
Sorry for so many questions.

Any help you might be able to give would be great!

Hi Amy,

In answer to question one, a ferry and a cruise ship are very different motionwise. My son is very sensitive to car travel and I have been known to get a bit green on small boats but we are fine on a ship. The ship is huge and has stabilizers that help also. It's not unusual to feel a bit off on the first night, but usually after that things even out.

Most people who do four night cruises seem to do the seven night if they have the means when they book again. We did a 7 last time (and will be again) and it didn't seem long enough. If you can do it you won't regret it!

As far as cat 5 or 6, they are identical with the exception of being mostly one deck apart. I am not sure what the motivation for booking a 5 would be unless you wanted a specific location on the ship (i.e. midship) and couldn't get it with a cat 6.

Good luck with your planning... this is a great place to come for help and information. Any way you decide it will be a blast... Disney takes great care of you. :flower:

We are also taking our first cruise and I am prone to motion sickness. Through some research, I've learned that the lower in the ship you are, the better you are to avoid motion sickness. I've also read that a verandah room is preferred if you get motion sickness. So bearing that in mind, we opted for the lowest verandah room we could get, which was a category 6 deluxe stateroom. I also read that you should request a midship location, since the motion is less there. There are some natural remedies to motion sickness, like ginger and those sea bands. Make sure your Mom checks with her doctor to see if those would counteract her meds.
We opted for the 4 day cruise, since we've never been. If we enjoy it, then we'll definitely try the 8 day cruise next time around. :flower:

DCL is fantastic at working with Dietary restrictions. Pluto's Doghouse, Pinoccio's Pizzeria and Scoops are open at almost all times during the day up on deck 9. You can order room service 24x7. And they are great at providing you with any other requirements.

If they can provide for folks on Kosher diets, gluten free diets, Atkins diets, diabetics, etc, then smaller portions won't be a problem at all. Just be sure to explain to your servers why you aren't eating everything in sight so they don't think you don't LIKE the food.

I NEVER cleaned my plate but explained to the servers at the beginning of the cruise that this is normal for me and then had a MAGICal time.
