New to camping and fort wilderness - I have lots of questions!

We will be going to camp at the Fort for the first time in March. After reading all the comments posted here, I am even more excited and ready to go.

I do have a ton of questions for more experienced campers to the fort.

1. We have a premium site booked. What loop is best? We like to be close to the action!

2. Laundry rooms?? Do they have them? I don't think anyone mentioned this. The laundry rooms are great!! Right in between the men's and women's rooms at each bath house. I usually drop a load in the wash before I go to the shower, when I get out of the shower, the load is washed, then I drop it in the dryer, go check email, then go pick it up. Takes very little time out of my day!!

3. How are the bathrooms? Not that we'll use them at all, I am just curious as to how nice they are. Do they provide towels?

Thanks for any info you all can provide!!

Hope this helps!!

We stayed at the Fort for the first time over the holidays, and let me tell you that it far exceeded our expectations. We're planning on returning this summer for several weeks to enjoy the campground more. We overdid the parks and left feeling like we should have spent more time relaxing at the MANY options the Fort has to offer. My guys did do some fishing, and we took some great bike trips on the nature trails... but we just scratched the surface. I will tell you my #1 favorite part about camping vs. staying at the other resorts:
You go "home" to your own belongings! There's such a sense of comfort curling up in your own blanket at the end of the day. It's a vacation, and yet, you have this homey feeling at the same time. Ahhh, I can't wait to go back!!

Ditto on what everyone else has said. As for the comfort stations. They are the cleanest showers you will find at a campground. And they are heated and air conditioned. I am a big guy so i like the showers better than the one in my mo ho. More room. You have to bring your own towels.

The fort is better than any of the resorts. Nothing like cruising around on golf cart late at night and drinking beer. can't do that at a resort. Also we get to bring dog who is part of family. Everyone is friendly and relaxed at the fort. And also you can meet people in person that you have met here.

Campers are great people most will help you out with anything you need.
I have even backed some campers in for people. Just glad i didn't meet them on the highway. LOL

If you go to the fort you will be hooked and have to go back as often as you can.

And last the 800 loop is my favorite. it is close to everything. It is premium pet loop but worth it.

It ain;t cheap but nothing disney is. But it is worth the money.

From a financial perspective, Fort Wilderness is generally less expensive for us. We usually have 6-8 people, so we're comparing two hotel rooms to one FW site. Also, it's usually less expensive to drive our motorhome to Disney than it is to buy airline tickets for everyone. That said, for us Fort Wilderness is not about staying at WDW on the cheap. Even if it was MORE expensive, we'd choose to stay at Fort Wilderness. We've stayed at the Value Resorts, we've stayed at the Deluxe Resorts, and we've stayed at the Fort. Fort Wilderness is by far our favorite place to stay on-property. We have our own beds and our own stuff (much more stuff than we bring if we weren't bringing the camper). We can bring our bikes, and our fishing poles, and our toys and games. Our camper has nearly as much space as a hotel room, and it's set up the way we like it. We also have the great outdoors and can spread out over our site. We have the option to bring our own food and not be tied down to eating out for our entire stay (eating out gets old after you've done it a few times, IMO). It's great fun to explore the campground by golf cart or bike, to check out the different setups folks have and to see the wonderful decorations during the various holidays. Also, Trail's End is my kids' favorite restaurant at WDW. Since the first time we stayed at Fort Wilderness (over a dozen trips ago) we have not been back to a Disney hotel.

FWIW, Fort Wilderness has the nicest bathrooms/showers I've ever seen at a campground. It also has wonderful laundry facilities.

We've only stayed in one premium loop, 400. It was well located and quite nice. I'm not sure what the status of the loop conversions is, but we've stayed in 200 and 1400 when they were preferred and 1000 when it was full hookup, and each of those loops was quite nice and had its advantages. 200 is close to the action at the settlement and marina, and 1400 and 1000 were well located near the Meadows pool, trading post and campfire program.

Hello Dissers! I am not new to Disboards, but I am new to camping. We bought a trailer last fall and are starting to plan a two - three week trip with our five and seven year olds for the month of June. We were discussing going to Disney and I remembered that they had camping at Disney. I did a bit of research on pricing and what Fort Wilderness has to offer, and that is where my questions come in.
I hope you enjoy FW as much as we have. I love the fort and I'm always ready to go back. DH has a dream to buy an RV, but for now we stay in the cabins and have tent camped twice. We just love everything about FW. You got some great answers. I just wanted to say have a great trip!

So I am probably the last person ever who should respond to your question as I have never been to FW or even WDW for that matter! I can tell you that we just switched from the GF to FW for these reasons
1. I can drive a golf cart...I mean who even needs the theme parks right??
2. Tons of kids activity's! Pony rides, campfire program, wagon rides, fishing, pool ect.
3. Boat ride to MK sure beats a bus, especially with little ones!
4. Can watch the fireworks and electric parade from the beach
5. I GET TO DRIVE A GOLF CART!!!!!

We kinda' feel like we are getting two vacations for the price of one!
Now I will let the helpful experts who actually know what they are talking about help you!
You are gonna love FW!

Michelle...first off..WELCOME!!!

now, this thread will be flooded with responses of why so many prefer the Fort over ANYTHING ELSE....my personal #1 answer is

It aint a hotel! Staying at the fort is like a vacation of its own..without even factoring the amusement parks!! .
I agree and we did stay at FW without park tickets and had a blast.

#1 campgrounds in the world!:cool1:

23) FTW has it all...
24) It simply ROCKS!:thumbsup2

What's not to like?
Love your list and I totally agree!

The original poster asked for approximate costs, so I will just amend this WONDERFUL list
.Love how much there is to do for free!

Does each loop have a mix of each available site (standard hookup, preffered, premium) or is each loop designated to a certain type?

No, all the loops in a particular site have the same classification.

Which loops are standard, which are preffered, and which are premium. Is there a map that shows this or a website?

I think Monique meant to say, "all sites in a particular loop have the same classification". Which is nearly true. Technically, loop 100 is a mix of preferred and cabin classifications... but that's really starting to pick nits!
