DH and I went and checked out DVC at Saratogo springs this morning and saw the new AKL DVC rooms, let me say they are VERY nice!!! We will be buying into DVC - AKV by the end of the year! So anyways, while driving over there and back to AKL, we learned about some new things coming to Disney. We even learned how Turtle Talk and Laugh Floor really works which is cool, but I wont spill the beans and ruin the magic for everyone.

But anyways, whats new thats coming??? Well they are in the process right now in building a new DTD BEHIND AKL & AK. Its due to open Christmas 2009. They will have new restraunts and stores that the other DTD doesnt have. They will remain to keep the old DTD, but since theres capacity issues, they are now in the process of building a new DTD. Infact the ground has already been broken and construction has begun from what we have been told.

2nd thing is at DHS a Monster INC. ride is coming.

3rd a new TS restraunt is coming to AKL, which will be built over in the DVC area called Sanaa.

I think a couple more attractions are coming to DHS as well, as we were there yesterday and I noticed throughout the park there were walls up stating they they were building for future enjoyment.

Thats all! Today is our last day :sad1: We go home tomorrow, so I will be back on the boards full time starting on the 18th.

If that is the same Monsters Inc. ride we have at DCA, it is pretty fun. My kids like it at least. Another DTD would be nice though. Thanks for the info.!

new DTD? that is the western expansion... it was announced early this year. it will be very lifestyle out door mall-esque as it is being developed by a company that does a lot of lifestyle out door mall-esque development... imagine Easton in Columbus, OH... same developer

monsters inc. dark ride... while it has not been formally announced the info was leaked from an official source

the AKL DVC restaurant will have a menu similar in concept to Wave at CR. But more African Boma-esque twist.

All the attractions under development and being built in DHS have been announced. there are other things on the drawing board, but the rehab, refurb, new attraction dollars for 2009 have already been allocated... won't be till summer of next year that anything new starts to get announced at DHS.

I read in the Mickey Monitor newsletter (my dad has an annual pass) that in honor of the new Tinkerbell movie, they are going to be making a Pixie Hollow at the Magic Kingdom. It sounds like it's going to be just an area to meet Tinkerbell and the other fairies. I'm not sure when it's supposed to be ready...I think November.

A new DTD by AKL would be perfect! That's our hotel of choice and it would be so nice to have it so close to AKL. The new rides announced sounds like something DD would definetly enjoy so we need to ensure to get our AP's renewed as we now plan on visiting at least twice a year now that's she's getting older.:goodvibes

Since there is no official announcment by Disney on these items, I'm going to move this over to the Rumors board.

Ohh another DTD would be great.

Yeah, especially since they're killing the current one by closing the part that is best suited to giving WDW attendees a sense of "nightlife." Also heard a rumor that the "2nd DTD" would possibly be the Night Kingdom...possibly with Adventurers Club *hope hope.*

KUNGALOOSH

We can see the new western expansion on our trips down RT 429. Over the last few months, they have closed off the road by the WDW "back door" entrance when you exit RT. 429. You can no longer go in the direction opposite the back entrance. You can only proceed towards Disney. There are a ton of construction vehicles down there, and a huge amount of dirt being moved around. I really did not excpect them to start this project so soon. It's kind of disapointing for us as this new route {RT 429} was a great traffic-avoider because you could leave the Turnpike, enter 429, take it all the way to WDW, and never set tire on RT 4, which is a holy disaster. Oh well, we probably have another year or so of traffic-free traveling to the back door......:guilty:

I can't get excited about a 2nd DTD, although I think that's exaggerating the true nature of what they're building. We all know about the expansion in that area, and like a PP said, the last thing WDW needs is more shopping. What is it going to have, another LEGO store, candy shop and art gallery? It's not like they're installing a new Cirque du Soleil show or DisneyQuest, which, btw, are getting a little long in the tooth.

This is just another Disney-as-landlord offering; somebody else builds and maintains, and Disney collects rent on the property.

Let me know when they add a newly themed deluxe resort, a new land to AK or a new gate to WDW. Now, those are headlines.

The project is called Flamingo Crossings. It's not a second Downtown Disney, even though Disney fan sites have called it that. It will not be Disney-branded. It will be a collection of "value" chain hotel properties, chain restaurants, retail stores aimed at tourists, and one or more non-Disney timeshare resorts. It will probably look pretty good because Disney is managing the overall appearance and master plan of the place, even though other developers are designing and building it. Think of it as a nice version of highway 192 in Kissimmee, not as a second Downtown Disney.

Flamingo Crossings is not a rumor. It's official, although the details have not been announced. See http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/business_tourism_aviation/2008/04/disney-worlds-f.html

This one is still a rumor, but it's a believable rumor. The rumor says it won't be a clone of the Disneyland version. Instead, it would be a mild (family-oriented) suspended roller coaster, based on the door warehouse scenes in Monsters Inc.

I hope the rumor is true. That sounds like it could be fun.

3rd a new TS restraunt is coming to AKL, which will be built over in the DVC area called Sanaa.

Yes. Sanaa, is now under construction as part of the Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village. Just as Jiko is influenced by the flavors of Africa, Sanaa will be influenced by the flavors of India. But it won't be a traditional Indian restaurant.

It's been officially announced. The DVC website calls Sanaa a "120-seat table-service restaurant with 24-seat lounge."

This one also sounds good. I think will be worth a trip over to AKV for dinner when it opens.

The one thing we are happy about is the fact that it is being built way on the other side of 429. When the project was first mentioned, all that I recall them saying was that it would be at the back entrance to WDW. For a while, we were concerned that it would butt up againest Disney property, ie: right outside the gate. Yes, I realize it's all Disney property, but we thought it was going to be built RIGHT outside the gate. :scared:

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my

shopping and food all outsourced, oh my!

Our DVC guide also said that Sanaa will also have a savannah view as well, so you will be able to see the animals while eating.

Well, this thread has taken a turn for the worst. From a second Downtown Disney (with possibly a return to its Pleasure Island roots) to a glorified strip mall. Ugh.

yeah, um... sometimes already announced projects get completely misinterpreted by bus drivers that tell stories that are only semi true.
