New tax law

DH just called to tell me that starting in the middle of July he will be getting less money in his checks than he is getting now.
I thought this tax was supposed to help people?

Can someone explain to me how this works? I went to the IRS website, but I am not good with figuring stuff like that out!

That doesn't make sense. I have heard on the news that people shuld expect MORE. I would investigate further

You are supposed to get more because the witholding bracket has gone down. That's what we were told by my dh's employer, I'll take it!

The others are right -- the tax rates decreased because of the law change, so unless something else has changed with your situation (e.g. new insurance rates, etc.) your DH's paycheck should increase, not decrease.

Thanks everyone! I also thought we should be getting more not less. That's what I understood from reading the posts on the CB board.

I will call DH and let him know he needs to investigate further.

I do payroll for a small family company and the only person the new tax law effected for the good was they guy that made the most money . The rest of us got about 2$ more a paycheck.
