New Swap idea

This would be for next year, but if I didn't say anything now, I will forget. If I wrote it down, I would lose the paper.

So I was thinking about a "scrapper's choice" swap. How it would work is that if you wanted to participate you would create your own group with topics that you would want to receive. Kind of like the Fill in the Gaps Swap, but this would be super specific.

So there would be a hopemax group. And I would list 6 topics that I want, then there could be a AlexWyattMommy group and 6 topics that she wants to get, and a BaMB group with her six topics, etc. So if you want 2 characters, a couple of attractions and a holiday you could do that. If you want all characters, you could do that too. Non-Disney and Disney in the same group, it's whatever you want. And in theory, the groups wouldn't all have to be the same size either.

I would limit the groups to one per swapper, (otherwise it could get HUGE) but you could sign up for as many spots as you want (So there would be only one 'hopemax' group, but I could sign up for an AWM group spot, and BaMB group spot, etc). And you don't have to suggest a group if you don't want.

Interesting?

that sounds like fun! Like a custom built swap. I'm game. I'll put it in the calendar with a link to here so if we forget we'll know where to look!

I  the idea. I now have three binders full of swap items (and I have only received back three swaps - with the Surprise swap and ABC elements still outstanding). And this weekend, while I was putting the Epcot elements swap in its binder, I was thinking that I wish there was a way to get a couple more things from specific areas in Epcot - but without having to participate in a full blown Epcot swap - 'cause how many toppers of each country do you actually need??? (I am a local who can go to Disney any time, so I don't have "vacation" albums, but rather park albums.)

But I wondered how that was possible. Looks like you had the answer to my question!!! I love the idea. I look forward to joining AND participating in this swap - but man, to only be able to have one Mischief group... what would I choose my topics to be??? And I love the saying, "what if I threw a pity party, and no one showed up?" - but in this case, it would be "what if I threw a Mischief group, no one showed up???" :scared: :rotfl2:

One idea to add to it, would be to make it a requirement that any one that creates their own group has to be a member of at least one other swapper's group. Although I know that you can't keep most of us away from these swaps and we will all sign up in droves, I can still see that there is a slight possibility of someone abusing this and having a group, but not participate in anyone's group. (None of us, of course... :rolleyes1 but who knows if a newbie joins that might have not-so-nice motives or is a swapper-hog.)

I like this idea- although I can see it being a hard one to hostess through sign-ups and such. Speaking of which I need to get working on sign-ups for the AK swap on Wednesday.

I was thinking of doing signups in 2 parts. First part: people submit their group. And then after putting together the list of groups and topics, have people pick what they are signing up for.

I love the twist on this idea. I would join. I was wondering do you sign up for a spot in your own group? Or just other groups? Probably to be fair if you had six spots in your group you would need to sign up for six spots in six different groups... correct?

I would expect that people would sign up for their own group, since that is the point. I wasn't thinking that people would HAVE to sign up for additional groups. Some people may only need or want a few items, that's the point of having a personalized group. So you could swap without having to get things that you didn't need. And people might run into trouble finding things they want in other groups. But I figure there are enough swapaholics, and new people that are just starting to build their swap stash to fill out the groups.

I think that's a brilliant idea! for example, any 4th July stuff I get always ends up as "pass it forward" (wonder why  ) and I don't need a lot of Halloween stuff as I have plenty left from last year, so i could do a group for what I need, like Christmas, Easter, scouts, swimming, orchestra and drama :thumbsup2 *** even things i do need I often only need one of per year.

well done Hope! And it will be a great stash-user too as the groups will be small.

Great idea! It took me a little while to figure out the process, but I think I have it. Is this what you're thinking?

Let's say I have 6 topics down for my group...Christmas, Zoo, General Disney, Crystal Palace, Pumpkin Patch, and Dr. Suess area of Univ. Studios...

If I'm correct, I could end up with varying numbers of people in each of my groups? Let's say 6 for Christmas, 4 for Zoo, 5 for Gen. Disney, etc...

Is that right?

Okay, so AWM's group would wish list
1. Behind the Seeds
2. POTC
3. Cali Grill
4. Hiking
5. Summer
6. Purple

And AWM would make 6 purples and hope would make 6 Behind the Seeds and Mischief would make 6 POTC and Mickster would make 6 Hiking and Tinker would make 6 summer and Nemo would make 6 Cali Grill. Yes?

I think it is as AWM listed- you get each topic 1 time. Everyone in your group will get all of your topics(as long as someone chooses each of them).

No, check out AWM's example. Only one group for each swapper with the topics already spelled out for others to choose. So your group would be

1. Christmas - 4ltltinks
2. Zoo - AWM
3. General Disney - rlovew
4. Crystal Palace - hopemax
5. Pumpkin Patch - MazdaUK
6. Dr. Seuss area - Mischief_Managed

When I mentioned different number of people per group, I was thinking that someone might want a group with 6 topics in it, while someone else may only have 5 topics, or someone else might have 8 topics. Also, I suppose, someone may want a single element swap, some might want 2 elements, someone might want a mini page kit.

Of course, there probably will still be a little of getting what you don't need, because if you were to sign up for another's group, maybe you only want 4 of their topics. But on average, I think we would still come out ahead. Consider a normal swap where you are in 2 groups but only want 4 of the 6 topics, you would get 8 you want, 4 not. In this swap, if you have your group (and I assume you would want them all :rotfl2: ), that would make it 10 wants, 2 not.

I still don't know if get it. :rotfl2: (ok, and I'm not blonde either, in case anyone was going to make that joke!) :rotfl:

changed your example to relate to me, LOL:thumbsup2
1. Christmas - MO2DK
2. Zoo - AWM
3. General Disney - rlovew
4. Crystal Palace - hopemax
5. Pumpkin Patch - MazdaUK

ok, so I would choose all 6 topics and make 6 Christmas ones myself. In order for someone to be in my group, they would have to make 6 of one of MY choices? So, someone who chooses to be in my group gets my random choices? Then if I want to be in someone elses group, I pick one of their topics and get back whatever their random choices were?

Exactly.

In other swaps, we're at the whims of other people's choices anyway. Especially, if you are the first person in a group. The rest of the group may fill with things you don't really need. This way, everything would be known in advance. I think 123SA tried to help a bit with getting things you don't need, by setting up the park swaps in groups with the topics already listed out. But you still could end up needing just Dumbo but not the rest of the Fantasyland rides. This is trying to take it a step further.

This sounds fun and like alot of work for the hostess but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Well, I co-hosted that Surprise Swap with Kat that ended up with like 29 groups and when I was doing the redos of my previous swap pieces, and I survived. So as long as I can avoid the curse, I am not too worried. :rotfl:

ok don't make fun of me, but it's been a long day at work and i am so not getting this. what the heck is the matter with my brain today. i think it's on overload. someone please just one more time explain it to me. please
