New survey .. proposal .. Tiered Ticket Prices

What current situation? All of this is still hypothetical. He examined one possibility. Not examining the others in the same post doesn't make him a liar.

As I said in my last post - IF this information was intentionally left out, the I agree it casts doubt. I just disagree with assuming that it was done intentionally for the sake of sensationalism or to intentionally mislead people.

I never said it was intentional. I said it was misleading and doesn't include some key pieces of information. The current situation is there are multiple price formulations and the one he used is the worst one possible. I also never said he was a liar. So if you're attributing those things to me, you're incorrect on both counts.

I I am in hysterics however over the fact that people are shooting the messenger. Folks the author of that article did not make up that chart, Disney sent it to people.

I'm not shooting the messenger- his message is inaccurate and lacks some key pieces of information. I am critiquing his article, not the fact that there may or may not be a price increase.

I wonder if they might send out the worst case scenario so that the other charts don't seem so bad? I won't call that misleading anyone but it might be them saying that we could do "this".

This makes the most sense to me as well.

As far as the TP blog entry, I appreciate Len putting that one chart into perspective and laying out potential cost increases if it were to go through. It also makes sense that Disney would survey the multiple scenarios. I have no doubt that one of the scenarios, or a combination of them, will come to be in the near future.

If you want to blame someone for that bad press see Disney

Yes! It's interesting how no one is criticizing WDWmagic for only presenting one side when they have also only chosen to publish one of the charts. I'm assuming that's because that is the pricing everyone is hoping for. Has anyone published all the different chart versions together? I know that I have read multiple articles and each that I have read only shows one chart to illustrate the tiers.

Probably because the WDWMagic article was posted over a week ago when the news was breaking. OTOH, the TP article was published just yesterday and would be considered a point/counterpoint or an analysis, rather than "breaking news".

Anything that looks bad will be criticized and rationalized as a minority opinion.

The reality is that any tiered ticket setup will be a net loss for guests. It can't be spun as a positive from a guest perspective.

And will invariably get more attention- bad news sells.

Of course any price increase is never good news for the consumer. Nobody likes price increases, including me. But when I look at what my per day cost is for our AP's and individual tickets - I think we're getting a more than fair deal and I can live with even what I consider to be a significant increase...IF it happens. Especially so if I have options that allow me to avoid those costs if I choose to.

This "attack the author" is a DIS board speciality. This is the board where it seems that people who don't say everything Disney does is perfect are the "enemy". I have never figured it out but as a general rule you can expect a "shoot the messenger" attack on here quicker then just about any other Disney fan site.

(And if you think your AP is not going to have a dramatic increase to match this, Fantasyland only exists in the MK. I am predicting a several hundred $ increase)

That makes sense, but why not update the original articles?

Maybe the reason that Len chose that chart was because no one else had published it yet and he wanted to show the worst-case scenario side of it since everyone else was publishing the best-case scenario. I even wonder if Disney sent the charts to different media outlets and blogs to follow the different reactions as part of the data gathering process. How do we know that Disney didn't send that particular chart to TP. When someone asks Len how to contact Disney about the price increase, he tells them to go ahead and post on the blog because Disney follows it-which made me wonder about how Disney uses social media to follow trends.

Personally, I appreciate hearing different perspectives and opinions. I feel like it helps me broaden my own. It's probably why I like the Dis so much!

There are too many versions of the survey for there not to be something in the works The one Len used may be the worst case but I expect you're going to see a huge increase no matter what. Disney has an amazing ability to ignore survey results and spin whatever they want out of it. Trust me this will be something we asked for. LOL

Yes, this. I was just reading along wondering what Len Testa did to tick off some folks. He wrote a blog post -a factual blog post based on a chart he had been provided by Disney. I am sure other charts and more posts will follow by him and by others. Meanwhile this discussion had become "What did Len know and when did he know it?" Kinda intense if you ask me

Len Testa is one of my favorite resources for Disney. I think he is very intelligent, is a huge Disney fan, and has a fabulous sense of humor. Additionally, his business is dependent on WDW being successful. So what would be the point in posting inflammatory article about Disneythat was untrue? I thought translating the price increases into % increases was really interesting.

And that's the side of the Dis that I don't like as much. :sad2:

Yes! You see people saying that the DIS is like this and it makes no sense. People have the right to their opinions whether good or bad.

I don't see a whole lot of "attacking" going on.

Someone has an opinion about something and posts it. Someone else posts an opposing opinion. That is not an attack. That is a difference of opinion. That happens in all walks of life and especially on Internet message boards.

An attack, to me, is going off topic to address an individual in a negative way. Which does happen but I also think people can be ultra sensitive when someone doesn't agree with them.

I don't see anyone here attacking one another. Some posters are knocking Len Testa around pretty thoroughly.

I'm not knocking him- I'm knocking the opinion piece he wrote. I'm sure he's a perfectly nice guy.

To call critiquing an opinion piece an "attack" on someone is ridiculous.

I couldn't agree more.

I noticed that as well and thought it was pretty bizarre. IMO, his blog entry was very informative, and I'm actually glad that he did a price breakdown on the worst case scenario. Given how widely read his website is, perhaps by doing so the outcry will be such that Disney backs completely away from those very extreme price hikes and settles on something more reasonable.

It can certainly be spun for those going on a bronze day, maybe even a silver but I am struggling to see how you spin it for gold guests

I'm not seeing the positive from a bronze perspective. We always try to go during low crowd times. If Disney is incentivizing people to move to a lower crowd day, it's going to shift more people into those days.
