We are looking to get a new range and have narrowed the choices down to a few (stainless) and wondered if anyone had any experience with these 2 ... :stir:

Maytag - double convection oven

or

GE Profile convection - either the double or single ovens.

Any pros & cons on Double ovens? Convection ovens?

DH & I only have 2 teen DDs left at home, and between work and sport schedules, we never seem to have semi-normal family meals but maybe once or twice a week. :rolleyes1 Not a lot of baking/cooking going on - mostly fast stuff - that's why we were considering the double oven.

We'd appreciate any input.

Last week I had the appliance repairman out to fix my refrigerator (for the LAST time) and I asked him his opinion on some different brands. He's been repairing appliances for over 10 years. He said that he wouldn't really recommend Maytag because they have more repairs than other brands. He thought highly of GE Profile (I have a 2 yo Profile dryer that I love) and a few other brands.

On my way home today I will be purchasing my new LG refrigerator (my top choice, GE was second and he stated that I'd be VERY happy with either one). So, my opinion would be to go with the GE! :thumbsup2

I have a 4 year old gas Maytag range that has a reg/or convection oven that I may be replacing shortly because I redid my kitchen and I want a stainless steel.

I probably will not go back with Maytag. I like the range itself (but I just used the convection oven a few times when it was new) but the quality is the worst. I have had it repaired under warranty several times. The body itself is terrible. The enamel has chipped off a few times for no reason. The edges on the backsplash part have broken off in a few places. Keep in mind this is just my husband and myself: no rough treatment of range.

Every GE appliance I have had has been great.

I have the Maytag Gemini Double oven (not convection) and I've had no problems with it. It's almost 5 years old and I use it all the time. I use the smaller oven 95% of the time. It's great because I'm not heating up the whole big oven all the time.

:thanks: Thanks for the input guys ... we're still trying to compare & decide.

I have had my GE Profile double ovens for 1 year and am very happy. I have the Trivecton oven on the top, but both have convection. What a difference when there is a lot of baking, etc. I will reccommend that you purchase the insurance if you go for the double oven. If there is a malfunction, the GE repair man told me that it takes two service men to repair because of the size.

Just redid our kitchen and went with GE Profile convection wall oven (30 inch) and the GE Profile Advantium oven above it (microwave/quick halogen cook). So far I like both but it's still early.... I needed the 2nd oven to have micro capability but also wanted it to be able to function as a 2nd oven when needed and this seemed like the best choice for us. We used to have a double oven (with micro as the top) and wanted to split the 2 ovens up in this redo, my concern being having to replace the whole thing if one of the ovens died. BTW I do like the stainless on the GE models (better than that on my KitchenAid refrig) - it seems easier to clean and keep fingerprints off so far. My only experience with Maytag is washers and dishwashers (and they were good) but that doesn't really tell you much about their ovens.

Here I am lurking, and now I'm really confused! We are looking at appliances for our new house. We can get a set of stainless steel GE (builder's grade?) appliances (dishwasher, microwave, oven, refrigerator) for about $1,300 less than the other appliances we have picked out on our own. However, we've heard a few other negative comments about GE appliances, and I'm not sure if we should take the chance, or buy the other ones? :confused3

I'd love to hear anymore comments on GE appliances, or other brands too! Thanks for any help!!

Like anything else some manufactures make better things then others. I love our Maytag washer/dryer but I wouldn't buy anything else made by Maytag. My sister has a Maytag Fridge that she has had a couple of problems with. As far as stoves go, I'm sorry I can't help that much. The old one was an Amana (Amana is now owned by Maytag) that we never had any problems with and the new one after the kitchen make-over is a Viking.

I have this oven too, I cook in the top oven 99% of the time. It seems I only use the bottom oven if it's a holiday or big gathering.

I buy the cheapest of almost everything, but everything I have ever brought that was GE was poor quality. I haven't ever had a GE stove so it may be different then other products, but I have also heard a lot of other complaints on GE (even from a guy who works for them) so I just have negative experiences with them/ They may have good kitchen appliances, but I personally wouldn't go with them only for the risk of losing all that money. Everyone that has posted that has the GE stoves seem pretty happy with them.

I am happy with my GE Profile appliances, except for the microwave that is mounted above my cooktop. It is the model that is designed to go with the cooktop, but I have blown it up twice. That is why I am happy that I purchased 5 years of an extended insurance plan. I like the stainless, and do not find it too much of a chore to kep clean.

I just got my Maytag Gemini gas stove (black) delivered tonight! It will be several days before I can have it installed waiting on my husband to get home from work. I have a Kenmore gas stove now that I am replacing. Have had it for about 7 years and have had it repaired three times.
