Hi everyone!

We're new owners at SSR (bought in Sept.), and we are planning our first trip home as owners for November '04.

Nov. 14-19th, not Thanksgiving week.

This will be an extended family trip, with hubby, myself, our 2 toddlers, both sets of grandparents , and all 4 aunts and uncles (early 20's).

We really want to stay at Old Key West because we belive our parents would absolutely LOVE the resort, not to mention the fact that it will be within our 200 pt. budget to get 2 studios and a 2 bedroom here for that time frame.

Do you think we'll be able to get the rooms at the 7 month mark? Is the "off" week of November typically hard to get? It's in between Jersey week and the beginning of the Tgiving holidays, so I'm trying to be hopeful.

Also, if you're travelling with two toddlers, grandma in an ECV, and several severe asthmatics that could be killed by smoke, where would YOU request your rooms?

You will probably get what you want at OKW but I'd consider booking at your own SSR resort as a "back up" and then cancelling once the 7 month window opens up and you book at OKW.

Make sure they know no smoking and ground floor (handicap unit?) is a medical request.

Cuddlemama,

I, too, do not think you'll have a problem getting what you want at the 7 mo mark at OKW. It's a large resort and the availability is usually pretty good there.

I really just wanted to post and wish you luck. You are a brave woman to go with that many family members. Have fun and WELCOME HOME!

The bad part is that you are picking one of the two most popular DVC time periods. OKW does fill up during the Food and Wine festival, its not a shoe in, especially for that number of rooms. Be sure to call right at seven months.

Maybe now that they are building a slide, OKW will be less desirable because of the noise at the pool, that may help.

Are you trying for a GV with 12 people, or are you thinking of a couple of 1 or 2 bedroom units? I would try for the GV and if you don't get it, try other size units. I am sure you will get something there! I agree with Richyams that the F&W will make a bit of a difference, but you will never know unless you try. At the very worst, you will end up with a couple of studios, but I am quite sure that wont be the case.

RichYams you are turning into a real live Scrooge, denying little kids fun on a pool slide...

I think the only answer is for you to get on over to OKW immediately. Head for South Point or Turtle Pond pool, and have a tropical drink while you're at it... Then keep telling yourself "This pool will be the same, the slide can't hurt me..."
