Hi all

Need some input, as our sofa is over 15 years old and looks horrible, would like to update. However, due to fact that we have new arrival joining the family in July and a 5 year old, would like something durable and inexpensive.

Just need it to look good for a few years, 5 or so. Budget would be up to about $900. Is Ikea any good, saw some at JC Penney also that looked reasonable.

Anyone have any suggestions, reviews, etc. Would even purchase on-line if good reputation and reviews.

Thanks again for the help!

I got my sofa from Macy's during a sale, and it was a ridiculous low price for the quality. It's leather, wears like nails and is comfortable. They offer more than what is on the floor, you need to ask questions. My sofa was shown on the floor as a huge monterous sectional, but it also could be bought in regular sizes. I think it was a Presidents day sale or something and I paid about $800. I love it.

We got ours years ago at Sofa Mart, part of the Furniture Row stores.

We paid $400 for a huge sofa, microfiber.

DD23 nd DD24 each bought similar to ours just about 2 years ago, but only paid $400 for a sofa and loveseat set. Slightly different from ours, but pretty much the same thing.

We have a microfiber couch, loveseat, and "man chair"...la z boy"

I highly recommend anything microfiber. We have had our furniture for 5 years, and have a 4.5 and 2.5 yr old. EVERYTHING they get on it I can easily get off with just water, even pen!!!! The furniture still looks like new. No stains, etc... VERY durable!

if you have a Big Lots check them out. Our neighbors bought their sofa there and it's held up super well.

We probably would have bought there as well, but they didn't have quite what I was looking for and we went with another local furniture store and got a matching set of sofas for around $1200. We have six people and two large dogs in our house so our sofas get a lot of use and they are holding up super well (5 yrs now) and people always tell us how comfortable they are. i really think you go go semi low in cost and still get a good quality product.

In this area $900 will get you a Flexsteel (if they are on sale). I paid just under that for mine and they are good quality. We have Morris Furniture and I'm sure other furniture stores would also have something for a lot less! I just saw one at our grocery store (which is now a Kroger Super Store) for $500.

I recently bought a sure fit cover for my existing couch. It was 150 but it made a world of difference for the few more years we need to get out of it.

Ashley Furniture has some very reasonable pieces. They have a huge sale going on right now.

Haverty's has some nice sofa's in that price range. Penney's also but I would sit and check them first.

I love Bassett Furniture!! You can go in, choose from hundreds of fabrics, and build your own sofa. As a matter of fact, I'm doing that tomorrow!! They have a slipcover line that you can just zip off the cushion covers, wash them, and let them air dry. I've done this many times with our sectional from there. I can't tell you how handy that is with small kids!! We've bought other furniture from them, and love the quality. I have some Haverty's also, but I think the Bassett is a little better quality.

Here's another vote for Big Lots!!! Back in December we bought a Simmons sectional for 800 bucks!!! It is a chocolate brown and very durable fabric. It is very comfortable as well. My daughter actually begs to sleep on the couch now!!! Anywho for $800 we got a sectional that is basically a very LARGE sofa part and then connects to a sofa/chaise lounge part....Check Big Lots out for sure!!!!

We just had to replace all of our furniture due to a fire and after looking for weeks and not finding anything I liked I caved and went to LaZBoy. I thought it would be too expensive but I was shocked at the reasonable prices. We got a duel reclining sofa for $899. I like the fact that springs and reclining mechanism have a lifetime warranty. The only downside is we have to wait 8 weeks to get it because our local store doesn't keep much in stock.

We also had a 15 year old sofa that needed to be replaced (it was white - 4 kids and 2 cats, you can imagine how bad we needed a new sofa). We bought a brand new house last year and there was no way I was bringing that old sofa into our new home!

We actually needed two pieces (living room and family room). We bought a slip cover sofa from IKEA for around $500...great deal and so far we have been pleased with comfort and hold up ability.

For the family room we bought a sectional at Sam's Club. I was willing to shell out big bucks for a sectional (okay big bucks to me...budget was $2000 for that piece), and we looked everywhere to see what was out there. In the end I really liked the piece at Sam's and the price of $700 could not be beat!

Sam's also has a bunch of leather furniture right now if you are interested in leather.

I bought 2 of these sectionals as well. I have them in my finished basement and everyone can't believe I bought them at Big Lots. They are so nice and comfortable. I am so glad to hear others enjoying as well. Yes, check out Big Lots!!!

we went to sofa select, decent price good quality. I know it has a warranty.

We looked at a few places, one thing we noticed was their was an identical set of couches at Sam's and at Sofa Mart. Same price, same pillows, etc. We found something we did like at Sofa Mart but did not like the pillows, wanted to swap them with another and they would not let us. Asked about purchasing them and whatever the answer was (I cannot remember) it just ticked off my husband and we left. Our neighbors bought a lot from the Room Place. It was not there when we went looking. We also have a flexsteel sectional. Have had that for probably 12 years, it's held up well but needs to be recovered which will cost a small fortune. The couch itself is solid and still comfortable.
