New Soarin' film distortion?

We've ridden the new Soarin' twice this year. In September we rode on Concourse B and wound up top center row. Score! Loved the new version. Then in December we rode again in the new Concourse (C) and wound up top row but on the far right. On the second ride EVERYTHING was distorted (like the Eiffel Tower was literally leaning/curving to the side). The whole film was like that. It was distracting to the point of ruining the experience. We've ridden old Soarin dozens of times and never had the look of the film differ depending on where we sat. Was there something wrong with the projector maybe?? I was glad it wasn't our first ride on Soarin cause I would have been super mad to have it distorted and ruined like that. We will request the top center row from now on.

Anyone else see this??

It's due to the new film and curved screen. We sat at the very end of the middle row on the far right and the distortion was absolutely awful.

It was distorted on our first (and so far, only) ride on Soarin'. We were on the far left as you enter, the last 3 seats next to the wall. It was very distracting and really took away any reality sense of the ride. (sorry that sounds awkward, my words escape me). The Eiffel tower was the worst, but other scenes were also off.

I will ask for the center next time. Not sure which theatre we were in.

There has been talk that maybe the distortion existed in the old film, but due to the nature of its content, no tall skinny things, it wasn't obvious. It is a bummer, but it's still one of my favorite rides. I am hoping we get to go back stage in about a week on our Undiscovered Future World tour.

The distortion has always been there, due to the curvature of the screen. Same thing happens in true IMAX theaters if you were to sit in the last right/left seats.

It's like they forgot that the screen is curved when they were filming......

Have only had the sides so far - it is very distracting, really almost laughable.

Yeah, it's always been there but was never as obvious. I guess I'm easy to please because even though we've ridden many times on the ends where it was very distorted we still loved and enjoyed the ride. Do I wish it wasn't like that? Yes. But it being like that didn't ruin for me.

The one area that does disappoint me, one of the theaters, and I forget which, is either missing the scent for the Taj Mahal or it's so faint I can't smell it. And that's my favorite of the scents. We've ridden several times in that particular theater and it's always been missing so I don't think it's just a one off thing. I hate when we get that one but I never remember till the scent is missing so I can't even tell them in advance I don't want that theater.

I noticed it the second time I rode but not the first. First time I was top center, second time if was middle, far left.

We've only done the new version one time. We asked to sit in the top row so we had to wait through one cycle, when we were admitted we were the first to enter so we ended up dead center. I'm pretty picky about sound & visual effects, I think I'd be disappointed to be stuck on the extreme end. I'm sure I'll find out sooner or later. :)

We were on the right side, but the seats closest to the center and still experienced the distortion. Sounds like exact center is the only way to avoid it.

It is SO distracting! I rode once with my DD in October and we ended up seated on the far right. I wish I had asked to wait for center seats - and I'll definitely do that when we go next month!

Soarin used to be one of my favorite rides as I did not notice the distortion on the old ride. The first time we rode the new version we were on a side and I hated it. I have been to the Eifel Tower and the Taj Mahal and I can assure you they don't lean like that. They should have used the Leaning Tower of Pisa as I can assure you that does lean.

We used to ride it multiple times per trip. At DL two weeks ago we rode it once and made sure to ask for front and center.

I am probably in the minority, but I wish they would bring the old film back. I much prefer it warts and all.

Yeah, 3 of the 4 times we rode in Oct we were seated on the extreme left, very distracting. Can't believe Disney doesn't have a technological fix. If they can remove Steven Tyler's hand gesture out of the R 'n R pre show they should be able to fix this.

We noticed it also and it was very distracting (we were seated on the right side of the theater both times). What would we ask for to get "front and center" next time? We'll wait however long it takes.

My first experience with the new Soarin' was bottom row and as far to the right as possible. Has to be the worst seat available. I had heard about the distortion, so I was prepared. When I went the second time I had family with me and I requested top center so their first ride would be better. I still noticed some distortion, but it wasn't nearly as bad.

I too prefer the first film.

I request the middle area when I ride now - but WOW, the imagineer who showed execs during early runs should have been fired for this, and I'm embarrassed for them that they didn't fix this. This is something they knew about beforehand during filming, and it is laughably BAD when watching from the sides (where 66.67% of people are seated). I would have cringed and demanded a fix had I been that Disney exec in charge of stamping my approval!
