We are moving to a new town this summer and DS13 will be starting high school there. He will be in the marching band and that starts in July. We did a school visit a few weeks ago, met with the counselor and talked about registration. DS also had his audition for marching band at the time and made the band. They said we had to have an signed purchase agreement on a house to officially register, which at the time we didn't but we now do. I emailed the counselor to tell her that and she said she would sent the registration info out. I got a call today from the secretary in the office saying that she thought we should do a visit and meet with a counselor before we signed up, I informed her we did that already. Then she said that we didn't really need to register until August. So, short story long, my question is, shouldn't we be registered before DS starts marching band, which includes a week at a band camp in Iowa????

I had to convince her that we should really get registered before August if for nothing else school liability issues.

Yes, My oldest was a junior in high school when we moved and they wouldn't even let her go to her new school until they had everything from the old school which took a couple of weeks . So i would push getting him registered.
Good Luck!!

Well we moved last year and yes your son will need to be registered.
In fact...I would do it ASAP...because sign ups for classes may have started!
I am going to tell you....High School is different animal and they expect the students to tell their parents information.
You are at a disadvantage because you are not in their school system.

Make sure you mark the Freshman Orientation date down....I missed it!

Yes I would act on registering no matter what the secr. said. What if the band fills up or a deposit on band camp had to be in. I would e-mail the band director and find out what you need to be doing for band and I would contact the counselor. My DD is starting HS and they had to register for classes in Dec. so I would find out esp. so your son gets in the classes he needs. Also if you are not registered you won't receive notices about things like orientation or ID pictures, supplies etc.

This is my thought, too. We did get a calendar with a lot of information on it about orientation, etc, but the times could change. We have already contacted the band director and DS is in marching band. Only those that try out and are accepted can be in the marching band. He also sent their practice/performance schedule over already. I do have to send a deposit next week for band camp and some of their other out of town trips (one is to the town we are in now so we are excited for the chance to visit here!).

We have already gone over the course schedule and have his courses selected. I am going to send the info back as soon as I can because they have already done class registrations for next year.
