New Room Categories?

Is it just me or has Disney added new categories for rooms for some of the resorts? Just looked at the Poly and it has a 1 bedroom suite now available as well as the Boardwalk having a Boardwalk view (instead of a water view) room. When I tried to see either room's photos, they aren't available. I'm not upset with the changes just wondering if someone else has noticed this.

I just looked on the Poly site. The 1-bedroom isn't new to the resort (they have other suites in the Tonga longhouse as well), it's just new to the website. I haven't looked through all the deluxe website pages, but you used to only be able to book a deluxe resort suite by calling WDW (bungalows at Poly as well). Looks like they just added them to book online.

Oh ok. Well that makes more sense. I just thought Disney was just trying to update their categories with all of the changes, refurbs and construction going on.

I'll stand down if I'm wrong but I'm almost certain that 1BR at Poly has always been the one Poly suite option that actually does show up online. It is true that there are other suite/room options (2BR, honeymoon suite, etc) that don't show up online that you have to call to book.

You may be correct. With the newer interface and searching capabilities, it may have been there, though I have never seen it personally and I'm in the system pretty often.

Correct! The 1-bedroom has always been available to book online. The others never have been...I've always found that sort of silly. Same for CR - the theme park view suites aren't in the online inventory; and at GF the main building suites aren't online. Drives me nuts actually, because it's hard to compare rates over the phone.

Thanks @Regan117. I was close to willing to bet on that as it's the one 'alternative' Poly CL category I've considered booking, but I know I have never called about it, only compared that vs a regular CL room based on what you can see online (and concluded that the rate for the 1BR was outrageous). But wasn't 100% confident in my memory.

I do tend to think that 1BR hasn't shown up as actually available for booking with a rate all that often, so that could why it goes unnoticed.

I totally agree on your CR/GF comments. My April Tower Club booking pretty much drove me nuts. I like to do all my rate research in the comfort of my office, not over the phone!

You probably know this but one thing I've started doing is picking up the "rate cards" at each resort that has the rack rates for all booking categories for that calendar year. I'm not sure about CR and GF, but the Poly one has the bookable rooms that don't show up online.

I would be a very happy Disney camper if they actually did put all the bookable rooms online! Maybe someday? Maybe part of the recent tweaks?

I've one seen the 1-bedroom Poly suite available once. I did book it but later switched it because I thought it was too over-priced.

And I didn't know that about the rate cards! I'm going to have to do that. I rarely pay attention to anything they have in the lobby but I'm gonna have to now.

Sounds like to me, it's just a new name for the same thing, not new categories.
I mean, there isn't any difference between Water View and Boardwalk View at BWI. So they changed the name.
Maybe that's what they are working on, fixing the categories so they make more sense? And getting them all listed

I booked that 1-bedroom at the Poly today for March. Not sure why...it's just so rarely available lol. I couldn't resist.
