New Rock Wall at the beach Resorts

I knew this is what they eventually would do. I actually will be disappointed to see the ropes disappear from Ft. Wilderness because the rope barrier really blended in well with the existing theming at that resort. However, for the Grand Floridian I could only picture a rock wall being there.

I will actually miss the unobstructed views, but I understand why they feel the need to do it.

I agree. They had no choice but to do something, but I do hope they keep the water view intact as much as possible

This has already been done for GF and the Poly. They did the best they could with it and I think it looks just fine.

Disney has always been very good with aesthetics so I had no doubt they'd figure out a way to blend it and if you've never seen the unobstructed shore line then you surely wouldn't miss what they've done. However, if you're like me and have been visiting the GF since it was built, you may miss the view even if it "looks fine"

Wonder if rock walls are coming to the beaches @ the Yacht and Beach Club & the Caribbean Beach?? Also, isn't there a small beach between the Swan & Dolphin?

Anyone have a picture? I watched the video and saw a fence going up (or coming down, hard to tell), but I didn't see any stone wall. The static photo in the article shows what looks like a stone wall off in the distance, but it is not clear.

I sure hope its not done at the Epcot resort area. That will be tacky to the extreme. There is such a thing as going way overboard.

Saw them under construction two weeks ago...

Lol...I thought they were building a rock wall at first...

...you know? Something included In their overpriced (apparently empty) rooms?

Silly me..

Actually hotel occupancy was up domestically ;)

Well since its combined I could see numbers were up at Disneyland and numbers were stagnant or down at WDW.

Occupancy rates...unlike park attendance...don't translate directly to predictable revenues.

I don't think they are under any pressure to tell the truth.

Plus...I tend to agree that DVC and rehabs flaw those numbers

DVC are near 100% full based on money collected long ago...and I have Personally (as in with my own little brain) seen occasions that throw statistics off...

Rehabs...strategically used. As in the advanced forecasts show
Soft bookings long way out...so a "scheduled rehab" pops up. And the people are compressed/moved around within the category. That's been used many times.

Look...their occupancy is always high by hotel standards...the benefit of location and infrastructure. But having been down at the poly...I can tell you the hotels were soft. I know what full hotels look like on the ground...that wasn't it.

I agree that rehabs skew the numbers but I think with the Disneyland festivities occupancy was near capacity there. WDW has resort rehabs and a lot of rooms out at WL and numbers very well could've been down. As I said though they do domestic occupancy rates not resort by resort so let's say WDW was down 3 points but DL was up 6. So domestic occupancy was up 3. I can see them swinging it like that.

It's more like a rock barrier then an actual wall, which I think is better looking.

I thought the same thing. To me a wall is something that is vertical...this is more of a rocky shore or what they use on the east coast to prevent erosion. Before I saw a picture I was worried there was going to be a 3 foot high rock wall. I imagined something out of medieval times separating your land from the neighbors land. I like the rocky shoreline better. Looks like it was supposed to be there.

We just got back Monday from the Poly. The rocks give the shore line a more finished look in my opinion. They look great. Alot better than the moldy looking sand "beach".

Little overboard...What about all of the canals throughout the park especially around FW?:dog2:pixiedust:
