I honestly think that they should keep HP in IOA. They are tying to raise attendance, but I dont think they are looking at the big picture. I hate to say it, but eventually the HP fad is going to fade. They need to come up with something new to keep Universal up with IOA.. and I dont think that should include more Hp...

WDW has rides for tons of OLD OLD OLD movies. The new Little Mermaid ride is based on an OLD movie. HP is based on fantasy which will never go out of style.

said movies are often classics that stand the test of time. Little Mermaid was relased in late 80's, the book it's based upon was written in early 1800's but it's still a good story.

WDW is very good at updating many of their older rides to keep them fresh. It's nice to see new attractions at Universal but I'd hate to see all the older favorites slowly disappear.

Yes, I'd rather see E.T go. I think the final show with Twister is pretty cool. I don't visit it every time, but have seen it multiple times. E.T. I've probably ridden twice. Just plain boring. I don't have kids, so that probably factors in.

Disney has a whole country they can use to expand and build rides. They can keep rides until the remakes of the movies come out 30 years later

Universal has a lot less space to work with. So they need to pick and choose what they replace and what may help bring in a larger audience.

Just look at the replacements they made. What was more popular and able to relate to a wider audience or audience more likely to visit?

King Kong? Or The Mummy?

Back to the Future? or The Simpsons?

Wild West Stunt Show? or Fear Factor?

Jaws? or Assuming rumors - Harry potter?


Clearly they are going trying to appeal to the crowd that is most likely to visit and that is the younger crowd for the most part.

I think Disaster was a nice re-make - they took a ride and made some changes to it and made it even better. I find all the acting they want you to do when in the station itself a little annoying as I'd rather just watch, but the video at the end is great!

I'm glad we rode Jaws the last time it was there. I do agree they need some new stuff there, but they better keep their hands off E. T. It's bad enough they got rid of BTTF.

That is my point. Just because a movie is old, doesn't mean you can't build an attraction around it or should assume it is going to go out of style. HP is destined to be a classic story with an amazing series of movies AND books that have sold kajillions worldwide. It isn't going out of style any time soon and will always be a good story.

I liked the Ghostbusters attraction better than Twister.

The Jaws in California is just a part of the tram tour,not an actual Jaws ride,Universal in Japan is the only park that has the Jaws ride currently.

ah i read you wrong, thought you were saying the opposite HP is well-written and it translated well to U.

and it's an outstanding attraction but not much 'face' time with Bruce.

I really like twister (think it's better than USH backdraft one) but would sacrifice it to keep ET which has one of the best pre-show areas ever, the forest along with the smell of it, is amazing!

I don't think adding Harry Potter to USF is a bad thing. Harry Potter will be popular for a long time to come still. Probably 10 years at least.

There will be a lot of other stuff they'll need to replace before that.

I guess it really depends on what kind of a ride they come up with.

I do think it's pretty difficult to come up with an area that can be lasting as well. When we were there in May, we were talking about it and really couldn't come up with much. Only thing I came up with was something based on True Blood - could have Bon temps as the area. Problem is what do you do for a ride? Certainly would be good for HHN though.

What would you have them replace Jaws with?

If Gringotts is as amazing as rumours say it is, there is a great train ride with cool special effects between the two parks, a new restaurant and some interesting new shops, the draw will be huge to Universal. The draw to IOA was unprecedented with the Wizarding World. I expect the new area in USF to have a very similar result.

Add onto that, the new (Transformers) ride that is being made and USF will be a force to be reckoned with.

The fact that it is Harry Potter doesn't really matter. It is all about wizards and dragons and magic and good vs evil. That stuff that never goes out of style.

Agreed. I think the Harry Potter rides will remain popular for many years to come. I mean, Splash Mountain is one of the most popular rides at MK, but how many people have actually seen Song of the South? A good ride is going to draw crowds, regardless of how relevant the theme is in popular culture.

I've posted this before on other Potter threads,why are they going to stick more Potter in the Universal park?very simple,IOA has had 30-35% increases in attendance since Potter opened with Universal at 6-8%,what that means is many people are just hitting IOA and skipping Universal.This guarantees more Potter visitors in the future and now they're forced to do both parks,one day trips before turn into 2-3 day trips,more people staying onsite,which Universal is betting on as they just started construction on a new hotel this week.I'm no huge Potter fan but if Jaws is becoming Potter I love the idea,an
indoor Gringots bank coaster and I just can't wait to find out what they do to theme the train ride between parks,financially it makes perfect sense.As far as Transformers I'm not overly excited about it like I am for Potter but I'm looking at it positively,it is very similar to Spider Man but it does appear to be a good ride and no old rides were removed to build it so that's good.

I think of it this way...seven Potter books, tons of fantastic imaginary places, lots of possibilities for expansion. You've got the hottest property in the amusement park world, why in the world would you not expand and grow with it? Then, for good measure, throw Transformers into the mix. . .

Compare that to what Disney has going on - a new Dumbo and a Seven Dwarfs indoor coaster. I'm sure they will be fine additions, but do they create a comparable excitement factor?

This is the way of business - find a winner and drive it to the end of its potential. Uni has only started to realize the potential of the Potter franchise.

Nobody here knows for sure, as Universal has not announced it. Most here are fairly certain it will be an expansion of WWoHP and include the Diagon Alley portion with a Gringott's coaster and the Hogwart's Express connecting the two areas.

I hope is this. That would be great.

To be honest I like the Simpsons ride but nothing will ever beat BTTF and whatever replaces jaws will never be as good as jaws. Oh well never mind.

I also think BTTF was way better. We were there the last day jaws was operating it was sad to know it will not be there when we come back.

We just had a new poster on the boards here yesterday who said that they just finished reading the HP series together and were coming to IOA for a visit. This is a perfect example of the story becoming a classic.

Harry Potter will stand the test of time better than the Jurassic Park area. Anybody else think that area seems incredibly dated? They really need to do something about that.

But....I'll be the first one on the River Adventure Ride. 2 more sleeps until I'm there

The problem with Jurassic park is its a decent sized area, but doesn't have a lot. There's 2 rides, one of which is only for kids.

I think the whole Jurassic park ride could use an upgrade and they could also add another ride or attraction.
