New return policy at disneystore.com

Just a heads up ... not sure if everyone is aware of the new policy ... I found out the hard way trying to return some things I purchased in late May (still in plastic and not even opened).

The new policy for 'stores' and disneystore.com is 60 DAYS!!!! It used to be either 6 months or a year (very generous, I thought... and convenient).

Unfortunately, the policy changed and it's now only 60 days -- no returns after the 60 day mark. I was rather upset since there are no indication on the website that a new policy is in effect. When I spoke to the cm via the 800 number she said it is stated at the bottom under 'return/exchange' policy. As I pointed out to her, "Yes, I see that now ... but being a regular customer and ordering nearly every month or so I didn't even think or say to myself, 'hey, let's check that return policy and see if it's changed?' There are no notices about the change in policy on the website, in the shipping box, or on the order invoice. I think this is so unfair!

What do you all think? Shouldn't disney have a notice somewhere on the website warning customers about this change. Or did I miss it?

I think they should've given you some grace period! And notice btw!

I would ask for a higher up!

Sorry this happened to you. BTW, I remember when Target was going to change their policy..... it was hard not to know it and I don't shop there often.

Syd

Since you bought those things in May, seems that they could at least honor the policy that was in effect at that time.

Hi, I'm in Fairfax Co. too!

I dont live near one and I purchased an item while travelling.

The receipt said NO SALE EVER FINAL so not to worry. A couple of weeks ago I was in Dallas and the mall had a LIMITED, so went to return the top and the sales person tells me their policy changed and after some date they will stop honoring old receipts, but she will do it for me this time!

I just kind of looked at her but wasnt going to pitch a stink because my goal was to get my money back, but if my receipt says NSEF than I shouldnt have to hear about a new policy that went into effect after I purchased. My item was NWT and still wrapped in the pretty paper and bag.

What is really going on in the retail world! I choose to shop and spend more at places that provide excellent customer service and have hassle free policies but I think SEARS is the only store left that fits this bill.

Disneystore changes their policies so often, it is hard to keep up.

I recently sent back something I ordered (my store closed near me) and I noticed on the packing slip about the 60 days return policy. I sent it back fast because I have a habit of forgetting to send things back quickly.

The new Disneystore policy began May 2nd, and items purchased prior to that are still under the old policy. (For now).

Please read the back of the receipt for details. The return policy on Halloween costumes is even more strict, no returns after Oct 31st, and no price adjustments. We DO point this out to our guest buying costumes this early, as often as we can.

I do understand your comment about being a regular guest, and being unaware of the change...... We try and tell every guest making a return about the new policy, even if they made it under the 60 day window, just to inform them in case they are unaware of it.

I won't bore you all with stories of how much returns cost us, and all the returns we would get, years after they were purchased, etc. Let's just say, we needed to make the change, as many other retailers have also had to do. Please note that gift recepits are also only good for 60 days.

PS I answered this for the policy at the disneystores, which is consistant with the policy at Disneystore.com

Does this pertain to Christmas shopping also? That really stinks I understand the reasoning but if You start shopping in Aug like I normally do Obviously the recipient won't have the option of returning the gift even though it hasn't been used and may not fit.

Am I the only one that thinks 60 day return time is generous? I can't imagine buying something and hanging onto it for months and then returning it. I find most stores around here only allow 2-4 week return policy.

epcot fan, I agree that 60 days is 'reasonable' though most major retail stores in my area have at least 90 days and many have a lot more than that. Smaller, speciality stores generally have only 15-30 day return policies or even less.

However, my problem with this new policy is that Disney did not INFORM the customer of this change. I think Disneystore.com should have a 'banner' on the website indicating the new policy .... also the packing slip should have this clearly spelled out (it's no where on my packing slip) ... and I think when placing the order online 'before final confirmation' and submitting the order a notice should come up with the 'new' return policy. Whenever a change like this takes effect there needs to be awareness .... this new policy seems to have just been quietly put into place and is suddenly inforced. :smooth:

pat,
those return changes are a long time coming and are really needed at the disney store. i can still see the lady coming back with a brand new shirt (she said), never worn, with spaghetti stains all down the front. of course, the store had to take it back! Or how about the smoke stenched clothes returned 6 mos later that people returned and the store HAD to take them back. ugh, it's about time there is a limit to this. HOWEVER, that said, disneystore.com is always sending out their promo emails, so i really feel that if they can do that, they can notify their guests of a major change like this so all are aware, especially the frequent buyers (like me, lol). Its especially hard with online purchases and disney's sizes are either too small or too big, not true to size for some reason. but i guess 60 days is long enough to see if something fits you or not, lol. i think the banner idea is a good one!

My favorite is the woman that returned a toddler dress from 5 years ago. Her 3 little girls had worn the dress and out grew it and now she wanted to give it to her sisters little girl. She said, she was not happy with the condition of it. lol
She had the receipt, from 5 years ago and got the full price.
I believe most people don't take advantage like that woman did. But for the few that do, Disney had to change their policy.
But the guests should be warned in advance.

Having spent *way way way * too much at Disneystore.com this summer (I had to have the patio furniture, and then a bunch of kitchen stuff and then a bunch of other things) I've noticed that since the end of May, all of mypacking slips have a note at the top that says "Any returns on that order need to be done by X date (all 2 months out)" You might want to look at your slips. If it doesn't have that on it, I'd say you definitely have grounds for a complaint, as there wasn't any notification for you.

I think 60 days is usually enough. And I don't agree with using items and returning it and getting a refund. However....I bought my DD's summer clothes for next year on clearance at Gymboree. They have a 6 month return policy....if she grows too much or too little to even be close to her growth curve at the 5 1/2 month mark I very well may return them. I understand it costs the store money....but I purchased the clothes with that policy in effect. I may not have done it if they didn't have such a generous policy. I do agree that without notice that the OP deserves to make the return at the price she paid.

Not me. I think the Disney Store has lost a lot of my money. I spend quite a bit online for the holidays and I shop early. I started my Christmas shopping over a month ago and some of it came from the Disney store! I will be shipping it back now as I refuse to take a chance of a gift not fitting. Most of the stores around here at least give you store credit no matter how old it is as long as you have the receipt. That is the least they could do at the Disney store. Just goes to show one of many bad decisions the store has made that will most likely be its downfall.
