New Restaurants or old? Help me decide!

They reserve tables at the back of Sci Fi for walk ins if that is something you are open to. Our family has done this several times and we really don't mind not being in a car. We do Sci Fi every trip (and we go 3-6 times a year). I love their onion rings, Reuben, burger, shakes.

I scored a Sci-fi. Odd that is is 7:55pm on a 8pm park closing day?? But happy anyway.

I'm not a fan of as Sci-Fi. The one time we went was in May and incredibly hot. Then you out me in a dark room (could barely see my food) with short clips running on the screen. I fell asleep sitting in my chair. The food tasted like any quick service. In the other hand I know it was not on your list, but I love 50's prime time. Even when I'm not hungry during my ADR I always clean my plate there. The fried chicken is amazing!

Agreed on 50s Prime Time. The food and experience is brilliant. I always order the sampler platter for my entree but substitute the pot roast for extra meat loaf.

Sci-Fi is very cool but the food is nothing special and it is really dark in there. My kids absoloutely love it though

Your new plans look like a good mix of old and new, with lots of fun. I think Homecoming and Frontera sound like a great time because I'm familiar with the chefs and would love to try their offerings, but I doubt the kids would be all that impressed - especially for 2 dining credits on the dining plan (if I read that right).

Opinion only, I love TRex and am just so-so with Sci-Fi (REALLY dark, the seating in the cars is weird and not conducive to having a family meal), but as another poster said, every DIS person has to try it at least once and the kiddos seem the right age. I do LOVE a good theme! Have fun!! :flower1:

Hey all, We are visiting DW October 1-8 this year and I have restaurant picks already made but have been trying to get a hold of 2 more. While looking for those 2 yesterday I stumbled on to 2 of the new Disney Springs Restaurants. Would love some help on what the best plan of action is here. Either way they are all new for us, but I must have skipped the older ones every visit for a reason right? We also have an O'hana we do every visit that I am thinking I should skip? Such a mess right now. If any of you can give some insight on these and if they are worth it, that would be wonderful. My travel Party consists of 3 adults and 3 kids. Kids tend to be a bit picky with different foods.

Do I still try to get ressies for: (Never eaten at either before)
Sci-Fi
T-Rex

Or do I stick with new Ressies:
Art Smith's Homecoming
Frontera
So please don't take this the wrong way but it looks to me like you aren't really being adventurous with your dining choices.
Let me explain. Scifi and T-Rex are pretty much hamburger, chicken finger, American food with no real surprises. Frontera yet another name for Mexican food (you could replace that name with Paradiso and get pretty much the same menu). Art Smith is the only of the 4 that you mention that is kind of off the beaten path so *if* you want to try something a little unique I would go with that one.
Other options that I might suggest that are different than normal fair would be Raglan Road and Bongos.

In HS, 50's primetime would be the choice I would suggest for food unless you are just wanting the nostalgia of sitting in car tables.

These are just my opinions. You of course know your family's taste better than we.

I just got back from Disney, and let me give you a little advice. Avoid TRex!!!
Ugh. Without a doubt the Worst dining experience we had in 9 days. It was themed to the max, which is cool, but the food is mediocre, it took FOREVER to get it so parts of it were cold, and the prices are nuts for what you get. So is it fun? I guess. The kids did like it. My husband and I were popping Motrin halfway through the meal to ward off the headaches, and we paid $120 for the 4 of us to eat, which includes one kids meal and one "appy as a meal".
With all of the amazing choices in WDW, skip this one!

So I'm not being completely unhelpful, let me offer a couple of suggestions. Sci-fi drive in was super fun, delicious, and worth the $. I recommend splitting a shake between two people as they are large and very filling.
If you have even remotely adventurous eaters, my newest secret is Skipper's Canteen in MK. OMG.
The only way I can describe this place...most people take photos of the food, I took photos of our scraped clean plates. It really was that amazing. It is a must do.

It's helpful when you are going from an afternoon break at your resort to dinner at DS and/or if you will have dinner at DS then head back to your resort...
But there is no direct transportation from DS to a park (or from a park to DS) so it really depends on your park activity schedule.

Actually it was just announced that they will begin having busses from the parks to Disney Springs direct...but not in the reverse..I agree with the above getting to and from Disney Springs is quite a time commitment.

If it is convenient for you, I would definitely try them. We let my DD choose where to eat at DS this time. She chose Morimoto Asia, which we had eaten at before. My choice would have definitely been Art Smith's Homecoming!!

What did you eat at Skipper's Canteen? We have ADR in November but can't decide what I want.

It's a real treat. It was so nice to find a restraurant that was different than the typical theme park fare. Even the kids offerings were a bit off the the beaten path. To start we all shared the shiriki noodle salad. There was enough on the plate for the four of us to enjoy, without filling up. It was delicious and everyone liked it, including my teenage daughter who doesn't eat many vegetables, and my 9 year old who would be happy with corn dogs and French fries at every meal.

For entree my husband chose the "tastes like chicken because that's what it is". The chicken was tender with a lightly fried batter. It was on a bed of rice? Could have been couscous, I can't remember at this moment. The sauce was a rich ginger sauce that was spooned over the rice, not the chicken, so it wasn't soggy. Out of all the dishes we tried I would rate this one a 6/10.

I had the falafel. It came with 5 or 6 small meatball sized falafel bites, over a delicious rice and cream sauce. The falafel were well spiced and not dry as sometimes it can be. I give it a 7/10.

My daughter had the beefy Mac and cheese. Get this. It is a must try. I've never seen her eat so much so fast. Solid 10.

My son ordered the sweet and sour chicken from the kids menu. The chicken was crispy breast portions, with s/s dipping sauce on the side, jasmine rice, and steamed fresh veggies. He too finished his plate off with the exception of all the rice.

We were too stuffed to get dessert, but we did try the coke product from Brazil, and highly recommend it. It is like a sweet ginger ale. Very refreshing.

The skipper canteen is a fantastic addition to the food options. I have no doubt it will soon become a hot reservation.

Thank you so much for your review. I was going to order Beefy Mac and Cheese before they changed it to different recipe but now I'm tempted again. It wasn't too cheesy?

It was definitely cheesy, In a delicious way. I'm not the best judge of "too cheesy".

Thank you. I'm not really mac & cheese person but everytime I look at pictures, I crave for them. I thought with meat, it'll be better.

It is not gooey cheese, it's a firmer dish. Think more like a lasagna texture

Have you tried the mac n cheese over by the peter pan place in MK? they had a hamburger version and 3 other s that I cant remember, but oh my was the hamburger version awesome.
