New restaurants at AK

Are there any new restaurants at AK? I noticed in the dining database there are a few new listings, but no further info on them.

Is there a Dino Diner? Chicken something?

I always thought AK had the worst selection of dining options, hopefully there will be more soon.

Unfortunately, all of the dining options in AK, with the exception of Rain Forest Cafe are counter service. From what I understand, when Rain Forest signed in to have a restaurant at Animal Kingdom, it was in their contract that there would be a "no compete" clause... meaning that as long as the contract was intact, AK could have no other full service restaurants.

This may be why you are not happy with the selections at AK, but give Tusker House a try. For a counter service restaurant, the quality is on par with a full service restaurant, and it is quite a bit cheaper!

The list of counter service restaurants in AK include:
Flame Tree BBQ (crossroads to Africa/Dinoland/Asia)
Pizzafari (Africa)
Restaurantosaurus--- yes, it is a sit down meal... basically McDonalds, though ( Dinoland)
Tusker House (Africa)

All of the rest are snack shops and carts, that include:
Chip n Dales Cookie Cabin (Camp Mickey-Minnie)--cookies, ice cream sandwiches
Dawa Bar (Africa) - Beer and coctails
Harambe Fruit Market (Africa) --fresh fruit, joices and beverages
kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery (Africa)-- pastries, pretzels, caramel apples
Tamu Tamu Refreshments (Africa)-- ice cream, sundaies, floats
Anadapur Ice Cream-- (Asia) Ice cream and floats
Chakranadi Chicken Shop (Asia) -- Chicken satay, pot stickers and corn
Drinkwallah (Asia)-- beverages and trail mix
Upcountry Landing (Asia)-- beer and cocktails
Dino bite Snacks (Dinoland)-- ice cream, sundaes, floats
Dino Diner (Dinoland)-- Turkey legs, pastries, drinks
DinoLand Snacks (Dinoland)-- McDonald's French Fries

Hope this helps!

Eeyore-WOW!! You've got more info that the official Disney site!! They didn't have half of those listings. Thanks.

We enjoyed Tusker House a lot, it's noisy and big, but the food was surprisingly good. We have done Donald's Breakfastosaurus twice and it's grown to be one of my favs. We also had lunch at Restaurantosaurus. I ordered a salad and it was way better than any McDonald's salad. S

And if you want peace and quiet and a serene eating atmosphere go to Flame Tree Barbeque! We love eating here b/c of the pavilions under big shaded trees and the water view. Even on a busy day it feels like you've suddenly retreated to a distint quiet area. We also like their food! :)

If you like breakfast foods you have the option of breakfastosarus. It's a buffet just for breakfast in dinoland. The food is awsome and the character interaction , some of the best. A PS for the lastest setting would make a good lunch choice.

I second that for Donald's Breakfastosaurus. It is by far the best breakfast buffet at WDW! Awesome food and character interaction. By the time we eat breakfast there (and we always get the first PS available), we don't even think about food until dinner time and then we usually get a PS for Concourse Steakhouse and head over on the bus to the Contemporary. If more people knew about Donald's for breakfast, it would get to be as hard to get PS's for as Cindy's!! It is wonderful! I can taste that cinnamin french toast now!

I've gotten a snack from Chakranadi Chicken Shop and enjoyed it. Had the satay and the pot stickers. Even my daughter (5 1/2 at the time) ate it.

Seems as though Dinoland Snacks is now called Petrifries... still serves McDonald's fries, though. The bars aren't listed at all.

I agree - not as many choices at AK. We always end up eating the McDonald's (not my choice  ). Where is Flame Tree? Is it near Dino land? My kids are always running full speed to dinoland - so maybe I'm missing it. :)

I seem to remember that Flame Tree is only open seasonally? We had a wonderful meal there in June 2000, but it has been closed every other time we visited since then.

Yeah, they seem to close it during the slower seasons now. I hope it's open when we go in late April, I've always enjoyed my meals there and if you go at a less crowded time, the kids can move around the outside tables a little bit.

I'm also considering Breakfastasaurus though, our AK day will be just me and kids while dh goes to Universal, so a more "controlled" setting may be better. ;)
