New Resale Purchase/Transfer Points

We have a resale contract that is waiting to pass ROFR and it appears according to other posts that we won’t have our points till maybe Oct. We are getting married at Disney in March and wanted to use our points for our stay. If we have friends who own DVC, could we ask them to use their points to reserve a room now and then when we finally get ours, transfer them back to them? Let me also say our contract has banked points from 2019 that we need to use for this stay and then we will bank our current UY.

Not sure on retroactively applying banked points. I would assume it would work as member services is usually pretty helpful (and if they aren’t just call back and keep trying) but haven’t heard of it being done so I’m not 100% sure. One thing to keep in mind, though, is there’s only one transfer in or out allowed per use year, so make sure your friends know and are okay with that.

Are you a DVC member already? If not, are you planning on having your friends make the reservation for you on their account and your plan is to transfer the banked points to them so they can apply it to the reservation? Just so you know, you're not able to transfer points that have been banked. Also, are your points and their points at the same home resort? Currently you are still within the 8 month window for making a reservation so if your home resorts are not the same, you won't be able to apply banked points (from another resort) to a reservation that was made during home resort window (8-11 months).

I haven’t heard of this working but it’s worth a shot. If your friends are willing to book and you transfer them points it might work. But like others said banked points don’t transfer.

Just make the reservation for them with the banked points on your account? Yes you each lose a little control but not much. Otherwise the only thing they could do is possibly drop 1 night at a time and hopefully you can reserve the nights as they drop them?

Also always a chance you get points earlier or try to see what you can pick up and waitlist once you get your points.

You cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. You cannot borrowed transferred points, but you can bank them. Your friends could make a reservation for you and then you could pay them back by making a reservation for them once you get your points. You just put each others names on the reservations when you make them.

Thanks everyone for the info and other options! Plan A doesn’t work but it sounds like we may be able to do a Plan B
