new/redesigned iPods

Apple has once again reworked their iPod line of products.

The redesigned iPod Touch now has a curved underside, much like the iPhone 3G. It comes with the iPhone 2.0 software upgrade allowing downloads of applications from the App Store. Now dubbed "the funnest iPod ever," Apple is trying to promote the gaming and multimedia aspect of the iPod Touch. The price for the 8GB is now $229, the 16GB is now $299, and the 32GB is now $399.

The iPod Classic remains the same as the previous model, but Apple has decided to drop the 80GB version (leaving only the 120GB version) and lower the price $100, making the iPod with the largest storage capacity a good deal at $249.

My personal favorite new iPod is the Nano. Reverting back to the shape of the 2nd gen. Nano, the new Nano is lighter, thinner, and comes in 9 different colors. The coolest feature (in my opinion) is the "shake to shuffle" feature where, if you would like to shuffle your songs, simply shake your iPod and it will automatically go into shuffle mode thanks to the accelerometer. The 8GB version is $149, while the 16GB version is $199.

Standard on all iPods is Genius, a feature that's part of the new iTunes 8. Genius will automatically group songs that go well together, which is very useful if you are having a party and don't want your guests to hear that you have Celine Dion on your iPod... that's another story, but Genius is really intuitive.

I'm very happy with my iPod Touch and 5th gen. iPod Video, but I HAVE TO get an iPod Nano!!!

Just wanted to let ya'll know in case you are wondering about purchasing an iPod.

Actually I got my iPod Video 2-3 years ago and it was $249 at the time, so it required a lot of saving and cutting back on my part (I was 11 so money just burned through my wallet like wildfire!)

I got my iPod Touch as an 8th grade graduation gift to myself using the money that my parents and relatives sent me, so I didn't spend anything OOP.

This summer I had saved up ~$300 from babysitting, etc., and it was gone within a matter of days the week before school started... and no, I didn't run around from store to store in the mall like you would think... I walked around from store to store in the mall. I think most of that $300 went to movies, restaurants, clothes, video games, and (dare I say it?!)... Starbucks.

i wish the iphone was available here...

i had hoped i could buy one in the states and crack it to use here, but the iphone 3G apparently can only be bought in the states with a service contract.....bummer....

none of the phone companies here have agreed to apples terms so it's not clear if it will ever be sold here.....
the earlier version was available in the states without a service agreement, but i guess apple wised up to that little loophole...

all i want is an iphone...is that so much to ask?...

my mom's coming for a visit next week and asked for a wish list...i guess i could ask for the new ipod touch......
but i really want an iphone....i wonder if pixie dust would help?

thanks! My DD wants a ipod touch for her bday this month, I saw it for 299 though, where did you see 249?? I have the 2nd gen nano and LOVE IT! I guess DH will get DD's 1 yr old ipod lol

Working with a three year old Ipod here, I thinks it's the first video one ever released.

I'm underwhelmed with the new lineup. Genius may be good but doesn't appeal to me. Its going to be hard for them to WOW consumers like they did with the original iPhone release.

That being said, I can't get enough of Apple products!

Apple has a recycling program. If you turn your old iPod in at any Apple store, you will get a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.

Genius cannot figure me out. I have to laugh as it tries to come up with suggestions for me. My iPod is filled with a mixture of Disney music, my daugther's favorite and all the 80 & 90s "House" music which I work out to. There's also Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin! Let's not forget about Colbie Caillat, and Alicia Keys. Genius just threw up its hands and walked off my computer!

Yep, only on o2 in the uk, not sure if they've been "unlocked" to work on any network, but i'm pretty sure the original iPhone has been, tho they're still pricey on eBay it seems

going to pick up DW an 8 gig touch this weekend. The price drop is a great thing! I just wish they would put the camera in them! She lives to take pics on her phone. This is the next best thing to an iPhone for her. At least untill contract time.
