one time when i was in france, there was this little town that looked like the town from beauty and the beast so i was all *takes pictures* and then some big french security guard was all YOU CAN’T TAKE PICTURES HERE and made me delete all my pictures

I think it's kinda because loss tugs the heartstrings of the viewer, and also sets up the character as a semi-independent.
