I am not a member (yet), but need to make sure I'm not missing anything. I want to buy into the Contemp when it opens and add say 100 BWV pts at the same time. SHould I wait and do all at once or is there any advantage to buying the min. BWV now and doing a Contemp add-on whenever that starts?

I would buy BWV now to "get in" as it will allow you to do the Contemp as an add on and you can then choose the number of points you will really need (minimum of 25 instead of the 160 required by DVC). Also, from what I recall, the add on incentive (right now anyway) is better than the new contract incentive. Remember a resale can take 2-3 months to complete so you may want to start looking now (maybe consider lower than 100 points as initial purchase because you can always add on and you'll have your Contemp points coming too).

Just a word of warning: A DVC at the comtemporary has not been announced yet. Now, all of the rumors are that the construction is a DVC resort. However, it is still possible that it is something else. So, I wouldn't make a decision based upon the assumption that the comtemporary DVC is guaranteed.

This may be a small nuance, but I didn't want you to be dissappointed, if we are all wrong in our speculation.

Good point on the speculation, but I will book any bets for those that don't think it will be dvc! haha!

BWV is always a good idea ;-)

WHat do you mean add-on incentive is better than new contract?

New contract current incentive:

buy 160 points = 100 bonus points
buy 225 points = 160 bonus points
plus $8-$10 off per point (make sure you have someone to refer you)

Add on contract incentive currently:
110 - 159pt add-on at SSR or AKV: 100 Developer's Points
160 - 199 pt add-on at SSR or AKV: 160 Developer's Points
200+ pt add on at SSR or AKV: 270 Developer's Points
discount of $8 and $10 still applies!!!

So say you buy 160 points. New contract bonus is 100 points. Add on bonus is 160! Say you buy 200 points (a good typical contract size). New contract is 100 points and add on is 270 bonus points!!! Huge difference.

If you have time (2 months or so), I woud buy a small resale contract first to "get in" to the system and then buy add on points from DVC! That is the best deal with these bonus points as long as some sort of incentive is still around (almost always is) in 2 months.

What are developer's pts?

The free bonus points you get from DVC just for making the purchase. That is one of the few advantages to buying directly from Disney. Resales don't have these bonus points attached ever, although they may have banked points from previous years. These banked points are usually accounted for in the higher price of a resale though. So that's why there are about $5/point difference on resale contracts at places like the Timeshare Store.

Some people say Dev points are not worth it because they expire in a year and can only book out 7 months, even at your home resort. But you can always rent them out to recoup some of your pruchase costs or use them for mini vacations. We used our original bonus points for a lovely romantic 3 day getaway at the Hotel Del Coronado right here in San Diego. We would never had paid the $600/night otherwise to stay. It was wonderful. Feel free to PM me if you need further info.

So if I want say 200 Contemp points and 100 BWV pts, should I wait til Contemp opens and buy them and do a BWV add-on OR buy a 100 pt BWV re-sell contract now and then add 20 or so Contemp points when they open? Just "feel" better buying from DVC rather than a resale, but what should I consider when making this call? I'm sure DVC will have no promos or freebies for buying Contemp and/or BWV.

One thing to point out, DVC is only selling AKV and SSR right now. BWV is sold out with DVC. That is while they were telling you to buy BWV on the resale market.

If you contact DVC and tell them you only want BWV points, they will have them. But you won't get any incentives and you will pay the full price for the points.

Okay... I know that when we originally looked into DVC at one of the booths in the park, we asked about buying BWV and were told it was sold out. But I am sure if that is all you wanted, and they have it, they will sell it to you.

Hi.....Want to make a first time purchase and on "information overload" right now. Just trying to get the best deal before we commit.

QUESTION: Referring to the chart above - Does this mean if I call up today and want to purchase 160 points at AKV, that I will receive an incentive of $8.00/point off AND 100 Developer Points? Do I have to ask for this if they don't offer it? Would it be that simple?

Trying to understand all this......Thanks so much!

For the most part yes it is that simple. However, you might need a referral for the developer points. Also ask lots of questions and understand how the developer points work. You might (or should) be able to get the 2007 allotment of points and not have to pay the maint on them. We bought site unseen (being we didn't take the tour but have been to WDW), I did lots of research on these forums and a few other places I could find info on, then called a friends sales rep (she refereed us) and he was really good at explaining everything and answering my questions over the phone. Don't be affraid to ask the questions after all it is not cheap and you deserve to be informed.

I feel I had a very solid understanding of how everything works before I signed. I didn't get caught up on trading to other resorts or even renting beyond the basics. My decision was based on wanting to go to WDW every year or at least every other plus the incentives were nice. From searching the forums people who seem to have some buyer remorse didn't understand how the developer points worked and/or the reservation process.

Oh great point you made. Will have to ask that question on whether or not you have to pay the fees on the developers points. THANKS for your help!

NO NO you don't pay anything on the developer pts, what I meant is there are restrictions on the use of the developer pts. Basically they are good for 12 months and you can only book them at the 7 month window - and they are basically use them or lose them (no banking). You get those but they gave us the 2007 pts that we immediately banked PLUS the developer pts. From my understanding you might not always get the year before pts. Here is what we got. :teacher:

160 developer pts
225 - 2007 pts (banked for 2008) - we didn't have to pay 07 maint dues.
225 - normal 2008 pts

So we basically got 385 pts for free - yes you could debate how the 07 pts fell etc, but worked great for us. It is worth asking as I saw some posts where people didn't get those points.

Hope that makes sense .

And yes we got the $10 discount per point for SSR. Good point Chellymouse - that the offer is supposed to end on 2/18/08 - who knows if they will have another one and if it will be better. I do think the current offer is pretty darn good but.......next could be better!?!?!?

According to our guide, the current offers of $8/10 off and the developer points is going to expire on 2/18/08. You may want to double check as this has been available for awhile.
