New pin trader (I'm hooked!) with a couple of questions...

Had a blast doing a little pin trading last weekend, for the first time. I had often bought special pins for various occasions or just because I liked them, but never traded.

2 questions:

1) It seems that many people will buy the "baby/toddler" design pins to trade, because they are less expensive (sold in packs of 5 to 7, I believe). So by later in the day, the CM lanyards have quite a majority of that pin style and a few other pins, rather than a well-rounded variety. I'm not interested in that baby style at all (don't like the plush babies either), so it's harder to find a pin to trade with the CM lanyards "watered down" so to speak. My question is....what happens to those pins at the end of the day? It would reason out that if a CM started with 10 "good" pins....LE or hidden mickey, etc...and ended up with at least 8 or 9 babies....how do they get switched out for the next day? Do they repackage and resell all those extra baby pins? Or do the CMs start with a zillion baby pins, but then how would people trade for the cool stuff? (hope that makes sense...the bottom line is where do the bad pins go?)

2) I see on here people buying HUNDREDS of pins for a trip to go trade....so do you just trade once per pin and call it a day for that particular pin? My friend and I probably only added 10 pins to our collections...we would buy the mystery pins and trade those...but then trade the ones we got in trade if we saw something we liked better...and then sometimes trade even those! I think it made it more fun, as we were constantly reassessing which pin was on the "chopping block."

OK...just curious!! Have fun everyone and if you have some insight, please let me know! :goodvibes

(1)I think they recycle them :rotfl: Either that, or they throw them away, and start fresh everyday. I think thats why trading is fun, everyday is something new.

(2)Depends what you like. We buy what we like and rarely trade...Sometimes we will buy traders and maybe do about 10 trades per trip.

You know, I've been asking that myself and have not received an answer. I think it would be good if Disney sold the traders from CM lanyards at a discounted price for those of us who just want to trade. But I have no idea what they do with them, I know that they usually do refresh the lanyards but I don't know the process.

As for the baby pins you're talking about, DD10 has them all, she loves those pins. :) She had tons of fun finding them all on lanyards so some people do like them. :)

The pirates baby set...We started with one, then Jess wanted them all...So we pin traded until we got them all....

The pirate baby set is sort of cute. :) and I can see their appeal to the kiddoes.

I'm more middle-aged, though, so like the more classic stuff.

Thanks for the answers!! Was just thinking about it again last night...we really enjoyed having about 10 pins on our lanyards...and would start by trading a not-loved pin (the mystery packs, though I did get a couple of cute ones at Epcot in those packs)...would get an "ok" pin...then later trade that for a better pin, and so on until we had one we just couldn't part with.

It's like a fun treasure hunt!!

Cast members get refresher pins whenever they feel like it at their locations. There isn't much need to switch out unless they have a couple of the same or the off chance they actually notice one's a fake. There is always a random guest that will want something a regular pin trader wouldn't want.
