last year I had decided to do the Bad Water Ultra Endurance Event. At the time I was having a lot of problems, marriage and self esteem. I thought that planning such an event would give me a new focus and hope that everything would work out ok.

Well I have as most of you know gone through a divorce and so my priorites have changed. I've been working on building my self esteem back up and a lot of my WISH buddies have helped with that. My race walking buddies here in the area have helped with that also.

I decided that although I would love to earn the opportunity to do that race, the Bad Water, if I'm not enough without it I wouldn't be enough with it either. Doing something like that wouldn't solve anything and that was the wrong reason to want to do an endurance event.

I haven't lost the thought but I'm going to work on just becoming a better race walker this year and shoot for a good showing at the state games and hope for another shot at the nationals.

I just wanted to update you guys on that since I shot my mouth off about it last year. At the time I did I was fully intending to start training for it. Where in reality I wasn't even training properly for the Marathon let alone the Goofy.

Thanks for listening

Dave

Yep I'm a dreamer but also a realist, so I to must always have a plan to as big D says 'keep moving forward".

Between this winter and all the life changes, this spring is going to be a time of new beginnings in a lot of ways. One of the things I plan is spending more quality time with the people like you and your's that helped me through this last year.

Winter kills of the dead parts so that new growth can begin in the spring. Sounds like there will be some new growth as the sun shines on you. :flower3:

Dave, have you done the necessary prereqs for Badwater? Eventually I would like to do it as well, maybe someday we will see each other there.

No training for and doing the Ultras was going to be my escape.

I'd still like to start putting it together sometime in the future but I'm back to reality and sanity, LOL.

As you start your new beginnings and refocus your training for the marathon and Goofy, maybe you can still consider doing an ultra. There's a great one here in Texas just north of Houston called Rocky Raccoon that is held the first weekend in February each year. They have a 50-mile and a 100-mile run to choose from, and it's one of the best races I've ever done. No crowds, of course, but the support from the volunteers, aid station workers, and fellow runners is fantastic. Anyway, training for Goofy is a great way to train for an ultra, especially one held just three weeks later. :)

John I'll be in Houston hopefully in June/July next year for the Senior Olympics. After that competition I will start looking at an ultra. My buddy Robert is a serious vet of the Ultra scene. That one you mentioned sounds good.
