I am purchasing a small 50 point copper creek contract with a September use year. The contract will have 50 points available September 2020. I want to book an 80 point trip for December 2020. Will I be able to borrow from 2021 points to make up the difference?

Someone showed me this as a way to keep points straight in my head for banking and borrowing.

Your Sept contract:

2019 points ---> good for stays Sept 1 2019-Aug 31 2020
2020 points ---> good for stays Sept 1 2020-Aug 31 2021
2021 points ---> good for stays Sept 1 2021-Aug 31 2022

Find the line where the vacation you want to book falls... you can use points banked from the line above AND you can borrow points from the line below.

I have two small contracts with different use years, so I write this out for both of them so as to keep it all straight in my head.
Enjoy your new contract.

Thank you! This definitely helps.. I thought I fully understood how my use year affects banking/borrowing but then I got confused lol.

That's exactly what happened to me... then my mind turned into a pretzel and I was confused. This keeps it all straight in my head and no more confusion... just look at the chart.

December can be a fight to get a studio at CCV. May the odds be ever in your favor.
Oh boy! Thanks for the heads up.. I plan on booking ASAP.. would you recommend the website or calling member services for this scenario? I’m wanting 2 studios..

You may need a miracle, and you should do it online.

Early December CCV is rough stuff.

Actually looking at NYE.. 31-2, that’s probably even worse.

I think as degrees of difficulty go, it's easier, but not substantially or noticeably so from the booking side. There are a limited number of studios, and a lot of points sold against high-end, premium accommodations. Everyone wants CCV in December and NYE.

To save time when booking, just enter one person in when booking. Just the lead guest for each room.

Then when you get them both booked, you can modify each to add all guests.

Online booking opens an hour before the phones do, if you wait for the phones to open it’ll most likely be too late.
Not saying you should or shouldn’t walk a NY’s eve 2020 reservation - but at least know that some of your competition for those studios will have a head start. https://www.disboards.com/threads/define-walking.3733221/
As soon as you have access to the DVC member site spend time becoming familiar with it, watch availibility, etc., to make your first booking less challenging.

Thank you that’s another great tip! What time does online booking open?
